Those factory engine covers that most brands now use have replaced styled engines. I\u2019m not a fan of those but they\u2019re actually functional for directing under hood air flow and heat as well as sound reduction. \r\n\r\nThis car, back in its day, would probably have been built as what they called a mild custom versus an all out performance car. Mild Customs weren\u2019t usually about the engine. They were about stance and sound and looking cool cruising the drive ins, whatever. They often kept their hoods closed because opening the hood spoiled the lines.\r\n\r\nAlso, consider this. The LS3 is conservatively rated at around 430 hp. The factory SAE ratings now are hugely more realistic than back in the 60s. This engine in the 60s would have been rated at 500 hp easily. I do not believe that it is a posi unit as well. The car is lowered and was done so at a shop that modified the springs and we added the gas charge Bilstein shocks later for a more responsive ride. The car rides smooth like well a buick just a bit firmer and responsive now. \r\n\r\nIt is a power steering car and I believe that most of the front end has been gone through, but not really modified besides u-joints bushings etc. Having owned a few Impala's of the era, I was expecting the same ride when I first purchased at factory ride height, and soon realized besides the roof line the car was much different especially in ride quality. \r\n\r\nI was told that it is factory paint (the trim tag indicates it was born white) with some respraying and touch ups of areas over the years. I can tell you that the paint is old, but still puts out a nice shine and has never scared me from putting it in a show. So, I can not tell you how, what or when the car was painted, but shows great for a car of this vintage and will draw a crowd wherever you go. I know that the build was started in 2011/2012 and finished in 2016 (since I saw pics of it incomplete still in 2015), before I brought in summer of 2016. I was told that the engine came out of a Denali (I think L94) that is the similar base platform and the trans is a 2011 Camaro SS L680. I can tell you once again that it was completely taken apart inspected and any issue was addressed in Jun.
