(#1 being a MKI 59' true SCCA retired full caged champ car, punched to 1380, 12.5/1 w/5spd and put on the street ... yes we can say 'done blown up'; 2nd MKII stock, smooth and shinny). This MK III Mite has provided this medium sized car nut [5-11, 175lbs] more than a few comfortable drives of 300-400miles in a day...top off and wind blowing (not so much with the top on). We have a small removal store-all cooler that has an arm pad which we put on the trans tunnel that helps with right arm fatigue. A few photos of this will be added tomorrow. \r\n\r\nContinuing on size... the brakes/rotors within the 13\" rims are sufficient for normal to fast fun street drives... not so for continious hard and heavy stopping. That said we always got stopped at the 1st turn off road at the top end of 115+ and never had to pull the chute.. if your a hard braker...I believe the last pad change was a tad too hard; there are better rotors than what's on it... I think Wildwood inferred the 3/4\" cylinder bore was likely \"oversized\" for the car's weight but some fine tuning of the frnt/rear cylinders should help. \r\n\r\nMore size...the 13\" wire splined knock-off' are fine to tool around on but again don't provide the utmost to highlight the Mites performance under power or corners. We pushed the meatiest tire/tube we could get on those 4.5\" wires. An early attempt at JPM's to resolve this proved achieveable as the rear rotor can be switched to the standard Mazda bolt pattern [ref the builders page notes]. JPM machined some slick front alum hubs with the same Mazda bolt pattern and that was the plan until we dropped the car off in Montgomery AL during a work assignment, got busy then sidetracked at MRP doing 1/4 mile bracket runs and shearing a set of rear wires. A move over to ATL to deal with a few mechanical issues resulted in the multi-yr shutdown including the unknown loss of the rear Mazda rotors and the finely machined alum front hubs [roll bar,,,etc]....so we have just stayed stealthy stock. A true set of M-Lite knock-offs would be another option if someone wanted to cough up the biggs for them. \r\n\r\nWhile on brakes/tires... and answer to the cones, solo and handling... As the builder noted he had a few changes on the rear stance in between switching to the Mazda rear. Personally the rear sits about 1.5\" taller than it should and contributes to the rear braking out and oversteering. Based on our few attempts to get it lower and still ride correctly we messed around by adding temp weights which helped but isn't the right answer. We oft keep an xtra 75-100lbs of travel stuff in the boot...now its empty for the sale.. A set of custom adjustable shocks would be the ticket as the org installed KYB shocks are the closest off-the shelf to fitting we could find. Those customs were around $250 ea 8 yrs ago...\r\n\r\nSoft top/hard top... we did a test fit of a true MKIII hardtop some yrs back and yes as remembered it seemed fine. The look didn't appeal at the time and opted to not buy it..[dah bad opt @ $200]. Some keen eyes might note the soft top has been slightly modified with the front bow cut down 2.5\" to get rid of that puff top look. \r\n\r\nOn the no reserve.... we considered the BAT reserve ...but its our Final Chapter on this pony and its going....going...going to someone and the proceeds put to good causes within a few select needy places... more on that as the $$ goes higher...take me a littleeee higher... \r\n\r\nAnd last ...the vid...hopefully tomorrow our 1st attempt with the slightly used GoPro H8 just scarfed up on a pit stop will be the ticket to nothing but sweet car sights and sounds... \r\n\r\nIf I've missed anything or anyone please let me know... If this is desired and needed we will donate the 25% directly in the persons name. The outreach is Crisis Response International [ www.criout.com ] located in Virginia; many of their teams are currently deployed in the tornado ravaged areas of Alabama and Georgia. I do need to mention those bullet mirrors look ok but provide very little rear view coverage. \r\n\r\nAs for the wheel position.. I've been very comfortable with the true north center spoke as it provides 100% view of the tach and speedo...[ if you want to switch its a 30 second change...I'd advise not to though....you're above most speed limits before you know it...I have a few old warnings to confirm this]. \r\n\r\nAlso the question continues regarding driving the car several hundred miles to a home coral... my opinion is the car is mechanically sound if that is the victory you seek. That said, a notable reason I would not drive it at this time is primarily weather. These small Brit cars soft tops are minimal... this top is in very good shape but its not something to withstand moderate to heavy rains and winds while driving @ 60+ mph. Also the bonnet louvers are fully open doing the job of letting air out but don't keep water from getting in. As well the fiberglass bonnet seals to the cowl weather stripping but it is not leak proof. Another consideration is the stock tank is only 7+ gallons. \r\n\r\nAs for loading/trailering... the Mite is very low and short, we find most ramps are to steep. We should be available to assist with loading as needed.
