This car shows its 72 year history. Ever wonder why so many TDs appear on BAT? Of the 30K made, half are still around. That's a better survival rate than any model save for a Model J Duesenberg. Why are so many left? They are fun to drive, parts are available, and club support is fantastic. This car isn't perfect, but it's a great start. The engine shakes because the engine and transmission mounts are shot. They are not expensive, but a pain to install. The floor has to come out so that the rear of the transmission can be raised enough to replace the rubber goodies. The suspension needs new bushings as well. These are inexpensive and not hard to replace. Use MG V8 bushings in the front suspension. The radio is mounted where the factory suggested. I tried out a radio in mine but I couldn't hear it above 30 mph. These cars sell for far less than they are worth in terms of dollars per smile. Go ahead. Knock yourself out. A little titivating and you will have an excellent car. Incidentally, the economics of repairing the transmission vs. installing a five speed favor the new gearbox. I rebuild these transmissions and have parts. I keep a rebuilt transmission on the shelf just in case. Once repaired, don't use first gear about 5-7 mph. With a little care the gearboxes are OK, but if you slam shift, or shift into first while moving, expect expensive problems.
