Red wheels w/ red painted accents on the hub caps, a beige top, the same air screens over the carbs, and exhaust tips w/ square cut outs on the bottom. The door hinge pins were an issue from day one and caused misalignment way back then. By 1960, when I went searching Detroit area Chevy dealers for door hardware, I was told somebody from Canada had gone around to all the local dealers and bought up all their new old stock. Probably hearsay, but we couldn't find any hardware, even back then. Given that I would like to weigh in on the fit and finish questions. These cars were hand built and the fit and finish of this car is \u201cas it was from the factory\u201d. If you see a 53,54, or 55 with perfectly match panels and gaps it has been way over restored. Much of the charm and conversations about these cars is the panel gaps and the hand built nature. My car for instance has 53 doors, rocker panels and complete front end with the 54 press molded back section. This I very commons with the early 54\u2019s as there were many 53 hand laid fiberglass parts that were used to build out 54\u2019s. I personally embrace the fit and finish of my car as it was built originally and not as on over restored car. It speaks to the manufacturing capabilities of 1953 thru 1954. Part of the charm and uniqueness of these cars. Enjoy it for what it is or find an over restored example. Your choice, as for me this car is spot on. Incorrect exhaust tips (should exit down, not out the back). IIRC, The chromed ignition shielding should be painted the same as the engine block, if the valve cover is chrome. If the ignition shielding is chrome, then the valve cover should be the color of the engine block. 1, or the other, but not both could be chrome, and be correct. Also, does the car have 2 hood pulls? All, in all, a good looking early '54 with a lot to like.
