What fun to drive! Three memories stand out:\n\nOnce, after a rain, I was driving down a left-hand curve toward a narrow bridge over a creek. I went into the curve too fast, foolishly let up on the gas too quickly, the rear end broke loose, and the car did a 270, leaving me sitting crossways on the bridge. No contact, though, and no traffic, so I was able to jockey the car and continue on my way. Quite the adrenaline rush. \n\nAt the time I worked at a restaurant, and once I parked the car there with the top down. A couple friends decided to move the car while I was working. Taking it out of gear was easy, but the steering-wheel lock meant they couldn\u2019t turn the wheels. Not a problem: the front end was light enough that a couple of them could lift it up with that convenient bar joining the bumpers, and they directed it into a grassy field behind the restaurant. When I got off work at the end of the evening, it was dark and it took me quite a while to find the car back there. Maybe they were even waiting around to point it out after a while and laugh at me\u2014I don\u2019t remember for sure. \n\nFinally, during the spring of my senior year the heater core got a leak, and Instead of fixing it immediately I removed the hoses and put dowels in them to stop the flow. Then I forgot about it. Late in the summer, when I was getting ready to go off to college, I realized that it wasn\u2019t a car to be driving back and forth four hours, so I sold it and bought a \u201869 Chevelle. Only when it got cold again and I turned the Chevelle\u2019s heater on did the light bulb go off\u2014I hadn\u2019t remembered the Fiat\u2019s heater problem to tell the buyer! Our communications had been by phone and he paid by cash, so I had no record of his name, and he had moved away, so I had no way to find him. My only consolation was that he had said he was a Navy guy moving to Norfolk, so it probably didn\u2019t get very cold. The right side looked like it had been vandalized with a key or something similar but the car was otherwise unscathed and complete. I was attracted to it because it was rust free and the mileage appears to be correct. \r\nI carefully removed the interior and cleaned the components. The seat covers are held to the seat frames with clips so I was able to remove the covers and install new foam. \r\nI pulled the motor while the car was in the paint shop and put a full gasket set in it and repainted it. The motor's condition was consistent with the rest of the car. All paintwork in the engine bay and trunk was done in the original colors\r\nThe electrical equipments all works, including the original Bendix radio. \r\nThe tires look good (no cracks, always inside storage) but they are getting old as I bought them when when I had the car painted. \r\nThe steering wheel has no play. It passed nicely with the exception of the brake hydraulics. (I let it sit too long.) I fell it wouldn't be fair if I didn't disclose this. A full overhaul of the hydraulic circuit was recommended. The master and rear wheel cylinders are fairly inexpensive. $90 for the master from C.Obert, $15 for the rear cylinders. The caliper kits with new pistons are $120 each. With new hoses and fluid, the cost will be around 400 dollars. About a decade ago I found a rotted out one of these in yellow outside of Frisco, TX. It wasn't listed for sale but the owner told me they'd give it to me for a couple hundred dollars. I was a broke high school student at the time with nowhere to put it, so I passed. I think they ended up scrapping the car. To this day I wish I had bought it - if only for the hardtop. Obviously this example is many magnitudes nicer than that holed yellow jalopy I found in a field years ago. One of my favorite pass-times is to leave one in the dust, right after he's climbed up my arse on an interstate on-ramp. The 100 plus HP in a very light and nimble package has left I'm sure many a Giaganti-Truck owners a bit surprised as they watch the tail lights of my 500 fade quickly into the horizon. I've noticed that as a rule of thumb, the height of a Lifted truck, is often inversely proportional to the physical stature of it's owner.
