It was the so-called \"Special MG Issue\". Within was an article called \"Painting your MG\" and the author discussed painting an MG with a \"color design\" rather than the normal process of refinishing. The author had some very definite reasons for his paint design enhancements on an MG TD that seemed to have some validity. Looking very similar to the MG TD here, the magazine cover featured nearly identical paintwork on an MG TD; the article also showed the stylized paintwork in a drawing. So, charmingly, the paintwork is at least contemporary to this car. At least contemporary for the California, mild customization ideas at the time. Did the restorer see this magazine when he made his choices? We may never know but it is interesting that the year of the MG TD and the 1952 magazine article are the same. By the way, I will also give my MG-TDs some gentle pats today and tell them that things will be all right because the buyer got a pretty fair deal providing he will use the car as-is. The April 2019 Hemmings article \"MG TD values are slipping like an old clutch\" seems to ring true. My dad always wanted a Model A roadster back in the 1960's and 1970's. When they became very affordable, he no longer wanted one because of his age. It seems, regrettably, these are like the Model A Fords in today's market in that the new generation do not appreciate what they are.
