No question it leaves something to be desired; it's clunky and downright terrible if you try to drive it as though it were a normal automatic. The mere fact that Audi developed the S-tronic is tacit acknowledgement by the manufacturer that it's not so good. Essentially it's a manual with electronic actuation. But, if you make a little effort and train yourself to anticipate it's quirks, it's actually quite satisfying to drive, and takes nothing away from the raw screaming delight you get from the awesome V10. I've come to enjoy mine. I have seen on BaT that people clearly will pay a premium for the gated manual, but is it worth up to $100k more? I have a 2018 R8 and wonder why I have two but then as I said above... I drive it. Special car and the best looking of the gen 1 cars. Many special parts on the car.
