After my son wrecked our Boxster. We bought qma 1980 924 that had sat for 27 years in a garage. Father/son project. Brakes were seized, tires rotten. Pulled to my shop. Yanked the entire fuel system to get the tar out. I'm an old Ford guy not a Porsche guy. Fuel system ran into this fuel distributor device fed from the air damper. You Porsche guys would know this set up. Anyway I yanked that fuel distributor out, took it apart and dropped it in my carburetor cleaner tank. About a week later, met a Porsche mechanic familiar with 924 cars. We chatted, as I walked away he says \" Hey don't take the fuel distributor apart it will never work if you do\". I choked out a Ok. No worries. Told my son we got to go! Ran to my shop yanked the distributor out of the tank, blew it off reassembled it and reinstalled it. Told my son we should just forget it and sell it as is. He said No Dad! Oh well, I wrapped up with new plugs and wires and put in new fuel, bled the lines and hit the key. Dang if that old Audi engine didn't fire right up! Sounded like someone had just turned it off. Incredible. My son drove it for a year. Sold it to a man that drove it across the USA! True story.
