BaT description would then be incorrect.\r\n@mec011 Nice sleuthing!", "likes": 1, "timestamp": 1626323349, "type": "comment"}, {"id": 6534676, "authorName": "Klasic01", "authorUrl": "https://bringatrailer.com/member/klasic01/", "bidAmount": 0, "content": "Another one of my old cars ends up on BaT, perhaps I should make it a point of trying to sell one on here myself someday. \r\n\r\nI picked up this car back in 2017, and it didn't stay in the garage too long but I did some of the work that can be seen in the pictures supplied by the seller. \r\n\r\nThe front shocks were blown, so they got swapped out for replacement inserts (Sachs OE from Paragon Products IIRC), and while the struts were out they got cleaned, rust converted, primed and painted. The surface rust on everything under the car wasn't confidence inspiring, but it was just that surface rust. \r\n\r\nThe A-arms, and front subframe got the same treatment as the strut housings, and then new bushings and ball joints were added back in before it went together. I had tried to find replacement A-arms, but like most things on the 924 Turbo they were difficult to find. The 931 uses a different sway bar arrangement from the 924/44 so those cheap VW a-arms won't work without modification. \r\n\r\nWhen you look at the pictures you'll see the top hats for the struts are nicely zinc plated. That work was done out of a small plating shop in Gastonia NC. And then in other shots you will see other freshly plated zinc hardware, I think it is a nice touch when working on cars to replace with new or used but freshly plated hardware. \r\n\r\nLast up would be the coolant expansion tank, the one on the car was starting to crack, and there was one in stock at Sunset Porsche so I swapped it in.
