In keeping with terminology that is accurate, that mechanism actually releases the transmission from the engine driveshaft through clutch hydraulic action. It doesn't really slave, as in \"...I've slaved over a hot stove all day\", so I think that release cylinder is an improvement in describing the mechanical action. And when we start talking master versus slave for cylinders, it gets kind of colloquial pretty quickly (maybe that's more like colonial than colloquial).\r\nEither way, I'm all for using the best words we have available to describe things. Some terms have exceeded their shelf life and should probably be left to antiquity. Like Yogi Berra would have said, when approaching a fork in the road, ... take it. In David Knowles book, \u201cTriumph TR6, the Complete Story\u201d, he states that US dealers were informed in May of 1970 that the rear lenses on some TR6\u2019s built in January and February of 1970 did not meet safety standards in effect as of 1/1/1970 and would be recalled to have additional reflectors added. I would assume some owners followed through on the recall and some didn\u2019t. He doesn\u2019t state when they started adding them at the factory, but apparently sometime in the spring of 1970. When they stopped isn\u2019t clear either. This car, built in October 1970 has them, so does the low mileage Saffron one that didn\u2019t meet reserve a few weeks ago. It was built in December 1970. My 1971, built in May 1971 doesn\u2019t have them. If I had to guess, I\u2019d say they stopped putting them on as of 1/1/1971, but I\u2019d be interested to see some cars built in January 1971 to test this theory.
