That said, if my father hadn\u2019t sold his \u201949 2R5 or \u201929 Commander (which we all knew as \u201cGus\u201d\u2026selling that car would have been like selling a family member), I might be facing marital woes. I\u2019d potentially have to borrow a page from my dad\u2019s book (who never had less than 10 vehicles) when he towed home a \u201948 M16 and told my mom, \u201cI bought it for our son.\u201d I was 4 at the time.\n\nMy father acquired this car in 2005 from a friend and fellow long-time SDC member who owned it at least as early as 1980 and perhaps before. I have photos of the car from southern Illinois car shows, so I\u2019m certain it\u2019s been in SDC member hands for at least the past forty years. The owner who preceded my father also had a red \u201963 Avanti R2 and liked driving fast in red Studebakers.\n\nI\u2019m not enough of a Studebaker expert to be confident in exact nomenclature, but I believe Studebaker advertised this model as a Commander Custom Sedan-Coupe (Sedan-Coupes came with either Custom trim or Skyway trim?). The Sedan-Coupes (\u201cF body\u201d) were introduced later in the model year and thus the overall production numbers were lower.\n\nLet me add a bit to the BaT listing: (1) regarding the seam at the back edge of the trunk, that\u2019s shown in picture 106; (2) the supplied parts for the tie rod shaft and tie rod idler arm are Studebaker part numbers 513504 and 513508; and (3) the engine number is shown in picture 142.
