I've learned A LOT in 12 months about Fiats. First and foremost, finding a mechanic who is knowledgeable and experienced with these cars is tough. I found shops that were willing but were not experienced. Of course it depends on the type of work you want done. A mechanic who is older than 60 will know how to fix most things on this car but if you want specific engine work done, you need an expert with experience in a chain driven DOHC engine from the 1960s. Luckily, I haven't had to remove the engine or transmission for a full service but that day is coming. Fiats have lots of oil leaks - find a car that is weeping versus one that is pouring oil. Rust is also a factor in these cars, the floor pans are thin and prone to rust, as are the corners of the car where the suspension connects to the chassis, and the trunk/battery area. Parts can be found but expect elevated prices and it can take weeks for them to arrive at your doorstep, most of the parts are in Germany, Italy, and some in the UK. Once the car is sorted (mine is almost there) and you can live with a less than concours quality car, then these are an absolute blast to drive and one of the best sounding engines for the money.
