The more commonly available tire for the wagons in the the same diameter as original is a 195/70R14. The checking is the byproduct of primarily alcohol sitting on the surface of the clearcoat on multi-stage Volvo paint from this era, while gasoline also has a similar effect.\n\nWhy didn\u2019t we fix it? Because where do you stop? These cars are still not commanding price points that justify complete re-sprays, which can cost upwards of $10-$15,000. We re-sprayed the upper half of this vehicle, much like what we\u2019ve done with other metallic paint jobs, due to clearcoat failure. I hate that we have to leave issues like this, but the matter is picking a place to stop.
