Sure, you'll see feel a degree of heat when the radiator fan comes on while you're in traffic, but as long as you keep your legs pressed in tight the hot air tends to flow out past them. \r\n\r\nI had 1991 K100RS 16-valve (same basic engine as the K1), and it was a bit worse. However, neither bike was a much of a convection oven on wheels as my first-generation Kawasaki Concours. Now THAT bike would give you a hot foot. Forget the book value as they are only guides with average numbers from around the country compiled from data of those willing to keep providing it to the producers of said \"book\" as an industry and consumer quick reference; every bike, car, boat and plane is different.\r\n\r\nA hands on and very complete inspectiononce you have it, will tell you how perfect or imperfect this example truly is. But they get harder and harder to find in mostly original cosmetic shape and without mechanical issues (ABS?) every year. I've owned 4 Red & Yellow ones and one Blue and Silver and have just one very fine R&Y today. \r\n\r\nIf you live in a cooler region I suspect you'll get more saddle time than if you reside where it's always warm to hot. The K1's and early K models in general tend to feel fairly hot for the rider due to imperfect heat venting (way back there was a aftermarket firm that made insulated molded, textured surface covers that helped a little) and going 100 mph did not make it go away and while the K1 may have been the smoothest motorcycle ever tested in a wind tunnel the rider always got a lot of heat on their legs - think cooking in traffic on a summer day on a HD FLH series for an honest comparison. \r\n\r\nBut again, and in my opinion there have been few motorcycles that have been as much fun to own and ride, or as attention getting no matter where you go (show up at a car event and watch what happens) than the Red and Yellow K1.\r\n\r\nKeep it for the long haul, ride it when the temperatures are a bit cooler (ATGATT) and care for it (cosmetically and mechanically) and I think you'll find that you have an investment that's more fun than a boring stock or bond or treasury note.\r\n\r\nIn ten years who knows what it will sell for.
