These aren't liners or sleeves, but an actual mesh embedded in the aluminum block. The later H-series engines in the 4th gen Preludes (and the F20C in the S2000) used the same technology, originally developed by Honda in the mid-80s, allegedly for the Formula 1 engines supplied to Williams and McLaren. Piston rings do wear on the FRM, but in many cases, the cylinder walls don't wear, so don't need reboring...just replace the rings. On the other hand, the well-flogged H23A in my '92 (with the same FRM cylinders) didn't use much oil until past 200,000 miles, so premature oil use isn't inevitable. A few of the dash/buttons were marked a bit different (if I remember, symbols on the HVAC buttons in place of the then 'words'). \n\nI sold it to a friend of my brother, who took a job shortly after up in Chicago and sadly the car met its end when it got tangled up with a semi-truck on the 'Dan Ryan' expressway that drug it along for several hundred feet before coming to a dead (and the Prelude was dead) halt. It dutifully (and miraculously) protected its new owner, so my brothers friend was ok, but sad the Prelude was gone. \n\nThat was the 2nd gen Prelude (and at that time, I think my 4th or 5th one since my 1st-gen 1979 'Lude)... this one is my personal favorite 3rd gen, which took the amazing transformation from the old-school/Japanese market 1st-gen to the next level in terms of refinement, performance and looks.
