When my uncle bought this car in 1968 it was billed as a 356C with a \"C\" emblem on the back and the 75 HP \"normal\" engine under the rear deck lid and he always thought of and referred to his Porsche as a 356C. It was only during the process of preparing the car for the BaT auction that the BaT specialist pointed out the VIN (218245) indicates this car started out life as a 356SC and the engine number (713491) identifies the engine as the 75 HP \"C\" engine - hence BaT's representation of car as a 1964 356SC with a replacement engine.\r\n\r\nI remember my uncle driving this car daily from 1968 to 1975. From 1975 to 1990 it was driven only occasionally (sometime between 1985 and 1990 it received a partial respray and replacement of the window rubber moldings, door seals, and headliner), from 1990 to 2021 the car was covered and stored in the garage undriven. The odometer shows 17.1k miles and we believe total mileage to be 117.1k miles.\r\n\r\nWith the passing of our aunt in late 2020, we began the task of settling our aunt and uncle's estate which included the 1964 Porsche 356. I did inspect all of the steering components. The steering coupler is old with some cracking, but no tears. I disconnected one end of the steering damper and the damper still had damping action. The inner and outer tie rod ends have a bit of play and the lower grease seal on the steering box is leaking slightly. But given I was working on the garage floor with the car on jack stands and the working access is pretty cramped I chose not to replace any of the steering components.
