It drives beautifully and has clearly been looked after its whole life. And better yet, it's fitted with a set of impossibly rare Zender Milanos. \r\n\r\nHere's every issue I can think of:\r\nI. Light paint chipping on the front, as you'd expect of a driver's car.\r\nII. Small door dent on the driver's side. Hard to see in photos but I'll try to get a good shot of it.\r\nIII. Occasionally when the car is hot, it can take a couple turns of the key to get the ignition to engage. Pretty certain this is because of the alarm. Both companies extensively modified the car. Different engines, different suspension designs/configurations and/layouts, and of course all the sheetmetal and the entire interior. Both really great cars and lots of details reflecting their origins. I am an Alfa fanatic but love and have owned Saab\u2019s as well. As a sports sedan I\u2019d say Alfa takes the cake especially with this later 24v car. Saab more practical, in character at least, and probably better built. Actual build quality for a 164 is pretty high but is a car that tends to be more demanding than earlier Alfas and more difficult to repair. But the sound and fury of the v6, the Italian design and the unreal 9/10th handling make them a great road car and an awesome long distance ride. They always feel faster than they really are. A really under-rated car even by Alfisti in the US. I find it had to get anyone to work on i164's, but the Alfa Bulletin Board (Alfabb.com) gives lots of info and help. have all the books and equipment including the special tester that Alfa used to sell only to dealers. This car is a top of the line quadrifoglio (i.e. Italian four leafed clover) with the bigger intake runners for the motor. While 164's are not selling at great prices now but most of mine came from NWARC members who gave them to me instead of scrapping them out. This car should run a good long time and be very enjoyable. On my 1994 LS with auto trans bought that year as a total loss at 3,000 miles I now have almost 250,000 miles. When the 24 valve was announced, I was sent down to the headquarters in Orlando for service training. Pretty straight forward until the timing belt replacement instruction. I've done timing belts on many different makes and models but this one was easily the most complicated and time consuming. Even with the special tools which included a bar with a sliding weight, we couldn't get a consistent proper reading. Back home and doing customer cars was an exercise in frustration and fear of an improperly tensioned belt. Alfa Romeo sent a rep up and he admitted they had no answer. So the tensioner tool never really worked. This car is not to be trusted to back yard mechanics or your local garage. Buy a workshop manual and get real acquainted. That's a Larsen antenna mount. Photo also attached. My guess is that at some point the antenna motor broke so they added this static mount. First of all, the engine is one of the best I have been around. The sounds it produces are amazing at full throttle. Great cars (when they ran). i had problems with the cooling system and had to routinely torque the heads (after a head gasket blowing and complete heads rebuild).
