This is our 3rd 9-5 Aero, our 5th SAAB, and one of 10 SAABs among family members. it was (is!) well loved. Some background on the car:\r\n\r\n- We are the 2nd owners, bought it in 2019. A southern SAAB, we couldn't pass it up. It replaced another 2004 9-5 Aero (in Glacier blue, a true unicorn, google it!).\r\n \r\n- My wife rear-ended someone a couple years back (pics of damage included). She drove the car home after the collision, no impact to any of the car's vitals, damage was all cosmetic.\r\n\r\n- The struggle with the insurance company was INSANE. There aren't too many of these left, most out there are often in rough shape, have been abused and/or neglected as they just became old, inexpensive, reliable transportation to non-enthusiast owners who just ran them into the ground. Comparing this one with salty rust buckets with a zillion miles, non-Aero trim automatics, etc., they were WAY off in their appreciation of this car. So they declared it a total loss, gave us some $, and we got it fixed (of course!). As sy1616 says, those who know, know...\r\n\r\n- @JHutchings As for title, I expected the insurance Co. would trigger something with the DMV, but as it stands, the physical title I have to the car is the same one as when I bought it, so \"clean\" (which is of course wrong - not suggesting anyone try to pass this off as other than what it is). \r\n\r\n- It has been maintained with an open heart and wallet, and kept good company with another SAAB, a Viggen, a Porsche 996 and a 1961 MGA. \r\n\r\n- I am fortunate to get a sizeable car allowance with my work, and am called upon to travel to Montreal 1-2 times per month. I did 16 trips there last year, with the 9-5 being the preferred companion. In a victory of the rational mind, we finally succumbed to the draw of modern creature comforts, including drive and traffic assist, to ease those all too frequent long journeys, and have replaced the 9-5 with a '21 BWM 540i (not much fun, but it aces the long distance cruiser mandate). It will be a VERY SAD DAY to see the 9-5 leave our driveway, we haven't been without a 9-5 Aero in our lives since 2003.\r\n\r\n- I will get a driving video uploaded here soon, the car drives fantastic. @sy1616 @PolarFBear as others on here can surely attest to, these cars are extremely durable, 147k is actually quite low. 2004+ are especially good, as sludge issues that could impact (poorly maintained) earlier cars was no longer an issue with a redesigned PCV valve. I would drive this car anywhere (and have been taking long trips all the time with this car). There is a great deal of life left in this car.\r\n\r\n- @martinaricejr Those prancing moose badges make people smile, which I love, and are a uniquely Swedish take on Ferrari's prancing horse. They are magnetic and are removed easily - no damage to paint underneath.\r\n\r\nI am forgetting stuff, but this is a LONG post already! As mentioned, there are pixels out in the ACC display making the 1st digit on the driver\u2019s side temp setting only partially appear. I fixed a similar (but worse) issue on another SAAB with a $35 kit and a bit of patience. It\u2019s been like this since we got the car almost 5 years ago, and really isn\u2019t a bother.\r\n\r\n- The rear muffler\u2019s outer shell is quite rusted. I believe it to be the original muffler. The flex pipe was replaced, and though the car is no louder than normal, I would assume a rear muffler will be on the shopping list at some point, especially if the car gets winter driven.\r\n\r\n- There is a flap in the climate control system that makes a brief noise when switching between outside and recirculated air. It works well, just makes a sound, and has been like this since we got the car, and for several years prior as per previous owner. Air comes from and goes as directed, all works as it should.\r\n\r\n- You will notice in close-up pics driver\u2019s side front bumper has a chip below the headlight on the black molding, and some markings on the hood driver\u2019s side fender; flying debris on the highway hit the bumper and knocked the corner light out, causing these blemishes, which was especially frustrating as the car otherwise looked perfect from the accident repairs 2 months prior. There is also a small crack in the surface of the rear bumper on passenger side, shown in pics - our previous 9-5 had back-up sensors \ud83e\udd26\u200d\u2642\ufe0f. Other than that, the paint looks great. \r\n\r\nHappy to answer questions. The recommended 10W30 semi synthetic engine oil was not the best choice imo for a turbocharged engine. Once this was changed to a full synthetic oil, along with the mentioned PVC upgrades, the troubles disappeared, especially if the owner kept the oil change intervals to 5K or less. @SaabFan you have a very nice Aero, especially with the light colour interior instead of the more common charcoal. The only item that could improve it is if this was one of the few Sport Wagons built with the manual transmission. I've gotten this question in private messaging also. Clutch is original, no slippage. Mileage on this car is mostly highway, with little stop-and-go driving. Previous owner lived in rural North Carolina, and we've been using this car as our long-distance comfy, reliable and efficient mile-eater, doing the Boston (Beverly)-Montreal run at least monthly. My drive to work is also a 20 min. run on back-roads, no commuting into the city. Transmission fluid was preventatively replaced while in my ownership, along with other fluids. \r\nFor what it\u2019s worth, I've been driving sticks non-stop since '97 and have replaced clutches on two cars only, one on a 21k mile e92 BMW 328xi within 2 months of ownership - dealer I bought the car from said it was a \u201cwear item\u201d!!!, the other being the Porsche 996, done at the same time as a preventative IMS bearing replacement \u201cwhile in the area\u201d.
