We had the 1975 version of this one in same brown while I was growing up and it became my mother's and later mine in the early '80's. These are wonderful cars to drive and this one seems to be a good survivor. Unlike this one, the Chicago winters took a toll on our '75 and it's probably been in the junkyard 35+ years now.\r\n\r\nHere's the story. My dad's '75 didn't have the leather seats, but rather the cloth interior. That's because he bought it off the lot. All of a sudden one evening he got the bug to go get a new car and had to have a new one that night. Previously, all his other cars were ordered with selections of exterior/interior/options then delivered later. My mother always wondered why he had to have that car that night and in brown on brown. I think I know why.\r\n\r\nHis trade in was a green '72 Eldorado with a white landau top and a black/white houndstooth cloth interior - much nicer than brown/brown on paper at least. In think that the interior design of the '74-75-76 is far superior to the previous '71-72-73 models, the dash is larger and more 3 dimensional - maybe influenced from the MBZ designs? Anyway, this may also account for the increased popularity of those years over the earlier '70's designs in the current classic car market. I can imagine my dad riding in one of his friend's new '75 and thinking what a better car it was to drive than his '72 and he had to go get one. That's my theory, I never did ask him about it and unfortunately I'll never know.\r\n\r\nWe got rid of that car in 1983 and I got a '71 mustang which was a better car for a high schooler and I used it to develop my mechanics skills. By that time, the Caddy was rusty around the wheel wells and the heater core leaked. That car and the mustang were my introduction to this lifetime passion for vintage cars. I'm in the market for one of these now, maybe trying to be a big shot like dad?\r\n\r\nThis one is in fine condition - I always grade these on interior condition, even the better examples have cracking door arm rests and cracking leather - this one seems not to have those problems. Bought it with 40k miles for $400 in 1985. Gas was about a buck a gallon. $20 in the tank on Friday night and head down to LBI or AC for the weekend. The 500 ci had plenty of torque and would easily float along at any speed with a fantastic ride. If you wanted go well over triple digits for long stretches, it did so without breaking a sweet. The caddies were very reliable for the most part and easy to work on although they did tend to rust easily. The steel used in these cars is probably 10 times thicker than a modern car. A Toyota ran a stop sign and hit me in the rear quarter. The Toyota was totaled, looked like it hit a brick wall. The caddie had a dent in the rear and the bumper was offline.
