At that time it was just an expensive five-year-old new car but I wanted an LE since 1980 and here was my chance. I kept it for over 27 years until it got totaled. The strange thing with the Nemet TR7's is that they were all 1980 models not the final year 1981's, Like I said we never did get an explanation why they were never sold until 2003/04. it was sad that it had been stored so poorly, I suspect that it had been taken care of for the first few years, but then they must have been moved around in a storage facility for a number of years and exposed to the outside elements since the paint was in really bad shape especially on the aluminum headlight assemblies. R-12 can still be found, but you would want to do an extensive amount of work before trying to charge the system. The first step would be to check over the compressor, then if it is ok do a long term vacuum leak test and fix any leaks. Only then would I try to charge the system.
