Here is some background and history of this Avanti.\r\n\r\nI am the third owner, having been permitted to acquire it from the second owners, a couple who were my across-the-street neighbors here in Denton, Texas and who were members of the North Texas Studebaker Club. They owned several other Studebakers, which were eventually sold as the years rolled by, but they kept and cared for the Avanti even as their need for assisted living arose.\r\n\r\nI first saw the Avanti in my neighbors\u2019 driveway after they purchased it from the first owner. I was enamored by the Avanti for obvious reasons. This particular car looked like it had just left the factory. In many ways, some 30 years later, it still does. It sits in its original paint, the chrome still shines, the upholstery is gorgeous, it was appointed with nearly every additional factory option offered, and the 51k miles shown are believed to be original.\r\n\r\nFrom my neighbors, I learned that it was a continuation car manufactured by Avanti Motors Corporation which purchased all Avanti production materials and facilities from Studebaker in the summer of 1964 after Studebaker production in the US ceased. I was excited when the previous owner called me in November 2022 and asked if I would be interested in owning it. Even though the registration and insurance had been regularly renewed, upon my inspection, the car would not start. After trailering it home and installing a new battery, it fired right up. \r\n\r\nDuring my stewardship, I have endeavored to give this Avanti appropriate attention to ensure that it would continue to look great and perform properly. That is out of of a total of only 212 for the entire 1983 year. These are truly unsung heroes in automobile manufacturing as every single unit is built by hand, from scratch, by truly dedicated employees in a very relaxing environment. Their attention to detail was mind boggling. I was lucky enough to get a personal tour of the factory a few years before this one was built. I am not nit picking, but mine still has R12 Freon and I was able to achieve 28F at the air vents which is 4 degrees BELOW freezing!\r\nI picked it up in Philadelphia (city of brotherly love) and drove it across America to Vancouver, British Columbia. I achieved over 26 MPG at over 80 MPH which has to be a testament to the cars' aerodynamic efficiency. Whomever gets this beauty, will be thrilled with such a lovely, unique automobile. There has been no odometer rollback on this Avanti. The Carfax discrepancy stems from an incorrect odometer entry \u2013 a typo \u2013 a made in December, 2017 while servicing the car, where the first digit was erroneously input as \u201c6\u201d rather than the correct \u201c5\u201d. No other digits other than the first digit were input incorrectly. This wrong reading was copied and carried forward from that December, 2017 service record in two subsequent service visits to the same vendor in February 2019 and June 2020. It is easy to understand how the wrong digit was input because that first digit is obscured by the speedometer needle when the car is stopped. When reviewing the mileage on the report you will find that the previous owner drove the car very little between 2008 and the date of my purchase in December, 2022, averaging about 50 miles per year. I first serviced the car \u2013 with the same vendor \u2013 in February, 2023 where the correct odometer reading was input into the record. That triggered the Carfax issue. (Blake removed the Roman numeral II that was used on the Altman era). The GM 4spd automatic was first used on the 1982 and the black shifter plate is not correct. The original black shifter plate to this Avanti would have PRND321 (back lit by a red bulb) but it most likely delaminated and was replaced with what looks like a repop or from a Studebaker Avanti. When I had my '82, I bought some of the last of the correct plates and might have one. Surprised this Blake Avanti does not have the real wood dash and console inlays or upgraded Blaupunk Digital AM/FM radio. The Nardi Steering Wheel from prior MOMO used by Altman and looks awesome. Interesting fact that Blake Avanti Motors removed the Vanity Tray from the glove box. It would be nice if the seller had documents on how this Avanti was optioned from the factory since each one was pretty much custom built to the buyers wishes, but the Dayton Wire Wheels look to be factory. The rubber window and trim seals, underhood insulating cover, rubber trunk seals and every part connected to the body show very little wear, without any sign of removal or replacement for paint. The condition of the car is a tribute to the care it received over many years by its owners. It was always garaged and under a car cover . Today, under my care, it is garaged, detailed, and under a car cover. It is a tight, pretty, stunning machine, factory original and correct. The previous owners are in assisted living and had lost the file on the car, except for the title.
