Rockers, lower fenders, front apron, rear apron, pans all appear original. Paint and bodywork is very nice. Numbers matching original engine.\r\nEarly cars, meaning 1965 and earlier, in this condition are not easy to find. Especially ones where someone made an effort to maintain originality vs going the custom route. The only deviation from original is the interior and wheels. The interior has custom door panels and seat covers, a cheap carpet kit and wrong colored headliner. All of which could be replaced now days with closer to correct colors and patterns.\r\nAs for power, yeah a 40hp engine isn\u2019t going to win you any speed records, but in a Ghia it\u2019s not as bad as you think. They are light and aerodynamic so the hp to weight ratio isn\u2019t that terrible, except on freeways with grades. I find that light colors work really well with the beautiful lines of a Karmann Ghia and pampas green really is beautiful. Being hand made, gaps and lines around the doors, engine lid, and trunk lid are rarely perfect on these cars, I too think the bottom of the left door seems to be too far out but I think shadows are mostly to blame in these pictures. The higher numbered pictures where the lighting angle is different shows a nearly perfect door/rocker alignment. Likewise, the right door looks perfect in the lower numbered photos and higher numbered photos then show a shadow. \r\n\r\nThe interior is eye catching and decent, but the car deserves a more correct interior. \r\n\r\nThis is a beautiful Ghia with a lot of original preservation, and it's obviously been well cared for. The early-mid 60's coupes are my favorite, and this is such an excellent factory color. It really wouldn't take much for a subsequent owner to take this car to the next, ultimate level. As mentioned, it really needs a correct interior (square weave carpet, and correct materials/patterns for the seat covers and door cards). Some of the seals are installed kinda wonky (pop out window seals, and it looks like an entire tube of 3M black was used for the door pillar seal, lol!). The side trim moldings aren't quite lined up correctly. The swing axle boots should be rotated so that the seam is at 3 or 9 o clock. At 12 o clock the seam will stretch and separate, causing leaks. The rain gutter trim is missing. But these are ultra nit-picky minor things that a car at this level starts to get scrutinized for because it's such a good, clean example!\r\n\r\nI think the seller would do well to discuss the details of the refurbishment. Is the car still original paint, or has it been repainted? If repainted, was it taken to bare metal? Was the body removed from the pan? What mechanical work was done? At this point we have been trying to put the trim on the seal that is already on the glass, but not installed. A friend said install the glass into the opening then try, but in my mind, that would seem even harder. Given how difficult it is to preserve any vehicle of this age to its \"original\" condition, I'm not sure why anyone does that anymore. The term \"resto-mod\" was originally a pejorative used to describe the restoration of a classic car that was cosmetically beautiful on the outside, but mechanically upgraded to make it more reliable and safe to drive. Nowadays, that's what discriminating buyers of classic cars who want to drive them every day should be willing to pay for. Unfortunately, this vehicle is neither. I wouldn't feel save driving this car on a modern freeway because it does not have the mechanical features needed to do. Leaving aside \"crashworthiness\" (a liability for any rear-engine VW), with an 1192cc engine and less than 40 horsepower, inadequate drum brakes, 6-volt electric system, and no safety equipment, this car is not safe to drive on a daily basis in 2022. Ironically, for what was spent trying to get this KG back to what it once was, the engine, trans, suspension and brakes could have been upgraded to make it safe to drive today, all while preserving the beauty of this car's classic design. Then, it really would be enjoyable to own such a vehicle. My '69 Ghia is such a car, with the same classic body, but mechanical enhancements that make it safe (and fun) to drive in today's world. The reality is that neither this one (nor mine) will ever be housed in a museum anyway, so I suspect this one isn't worth much more than $25K, but I guess we'll see how high it actually goes. They are getting very hard to find in this condition. I have a 1958 coupe for the last 17 years and they are magnificent cars if maintained and looked after. Mine is all original and I have no problems driving in modern traffic and it is an excellent touring car. It handles the freeway well - but long uphill slopes can be a problem with the 36hp. \r\n\r\nI have a friend restoring a similar Pampas 60s and it certainly isn't cheap to do. \r\n\r\nNot the place but does anyone know what the boge sachs shocks on this car are like. I love \"classic\" cars. In fact, I own 12 of them and would probably own more if I had the room for them and the time to drive all of them as they need to be driven. All that said, classic cars are \"classic\" because of how they look and not how they drive. There isn't a single vehicle made that's more than 25 years-old that's as fast, as safe and as reliable as what modern technology allows, with the possible exception of a Porsche 959 that was so far ahead of its time it still has merit (and there are so few of those that I could never afford to own one. Indeed, the reason so many \"classic\" cars are sold as replica versions is because of their design and beauty. The KG is a good example. The Smithsonian declared the design of the 1960 to 1969 Karmann Ghia as the most beautiful automotive design ever created. I own a '69 Ghia for that reason alone. But I feel no need to preserve its antiquated technology because it would not be safe to drive it that way today. And I love to drive my cars because they are rolling artwork from a time when automotive design was paramount. I own a '62 Cadillac El Dorado convertible that is a lot of fun to drive, but given its overall weight, it would be unsafe to drive it without upgrading its brakes to modern disc brake technology, And, without adapting its carburetion to fuel injection, even being able to start it was unpredictable. With those two minor changes, it's a delight to cruise in, and its beauty is exactly the same to behold. Old cars often get left to die in automotive graveyards (or by the side of the road where they broke-down), because they weren't mechanically reliable. Thus, I happen to applaud the \"resto-mod\" movement, because it has helped to preserve so many of these rolling works of art in a way people can enjoy them safely for another 50 years!
