Almost twice actually. Initially the car was bought in 2002 from California as a stripped shell with most of the parts. The car was very solid but the floors were thin and had a few pinholes so we elected to replace the floors. The engine was rebuilt then with bigger bore pistons and the heads were machined to match the dome of the new pistons. That same engine is the one in it now and we have driven the car to Arizona for a show with no issues on the drive. Back to the restoration... the seats that came with the car were a newer set which was wrong so Autos International sourced us a correct pair of \"fat back\" seats and recovered them for us. The gauges were rebuilt by North Hollywood Speedometer. The top was replaced by me then. Once completed around 2004 we just drove and enjoyed the car. I also completed a resto on my 1953 Pre-A in 2005 so we both attended the Gulf Coast Holiday for the 356 registry club. Again the car was a great reliable car, but over the years we came to realize the color that was painted on it in 2004 was the incorrect shade. We had initially used a sample of color found inside a door but it obviously was not correct. Fast forward many years later and John Wilhoit finally had a spray card sample and color formula from Glasurit for the correct Lago green. It was such a rare color that finding the correct code had been impossible before John came accross it. So we decided to redo the car in the correct shade. Unfortunately the top is nailed to the bodies wood bows in the rear so repainting meant the top had to come off if we wanted to do it right. So It now has the correct shade of paint and a new top to boot. All the rest of the car is as it was done from 2004. The rear and front of the cabriolet top are finished with the aluminum trim as it would have left the factory. I rarely see T-1 cars with the front trim put back on but the T-1 A cars were a transition from the Pre-A era and still had that front trim. Most people elect to not install it because either they don't know it should be there or figure it doesn't need it and the newer cars did not have one. They are correct the front doesn't need the trim and it is difficult to install (which is probably another reason they are not put back) but until the T-2's they would have had this trim. One thing that I know of that is and has been needing to be addressed is the driver side window has scratches, but finding the one piece roll up window for a cab that is not scratched is impossible so we have just lived with it like it is. \r\n@ Pininfarina11 yes it is a great driver. The Cab top process starts from the inside and works out. The headliner is the first to go on and get correct, then once that is done you can work on the padding and then the top. All the decals are lined up with the inlet (einlas) boss, and the inlet elbow is cad plated (silver), not orange like the canister. The coil decal is located below the terminal end of the coil and is read with the coil sitting on the flat end. Being installed \"upside - down\" on the Porsche engine the BOSCH would read upside - down, and be below the bracket. Remember these were standard items that Porsche bought off the shelf from Bosch and Fram who sold millions of them to many manufactures. \r\nAs for Lago Green metallic, as well as Aquamarine Blue metallic and Graphite metallic, they were 1956 colors which were to be discontinued with the introduction of new colors in 1957. \"However, delivery difficulties of our suppliers are forcing us to delay the introduction of our new color combinations until June 1957.\" Apparently due to the change from lacquer to synthetic enamel. \"Therefore, cars ordered for delivery in May 1957 should be ordered in the previous color combinations . . . including Lago Green metallic . . . etc., etc. \r\nBy the way - there is no such thing as \"pre-A.\" Porsche never made a model called \"pre-A.\" They were simply 356's, with many, many variations and changes from 1948 through 1955. I tried to keep things as correct as possible with parts that were available when the car was restored which was about 20 years ago now. The main goal was to build a nice clean car that is a great driver and shows well without getting to anal. I do appreciate the knowledge on these cars people are sharing and hopefully the issues stay minute because I tried to be correct when building it. I'll bet there are plenty of concourse cars that while being 100% correct still don't drive as nice as this car does which is way more important to me and my boss who owns the car. That is one problem with the Cof A's they were known to be inconsistent in the data, and they are even worse today. This is why having a copy of the Kardex is nice to have, unfortunately they were not publicly available until about 10 years ago. By then we had figured out the inconsistency on the U.S. issued Cof A's so never pursued a Kardex copy. As for engine modifications it has the big bore 86mm pistons bringing it to a 1720 cc. The heads where machined to 30degrees to match the dome of the big bore pistons by competition engineering. I would not necessarily call it a snoozer of a car.
