So many great memories. I retrieved my A40 Service Manual to learn that the Austin service facilities for U.S.A. were on Webster Avenue, Bronx 57, New York. And in Canada, on Kenilworth Avenue N, not far from where I grew up in east Hamilton. \r\n Dad, born in Essex, England, came to Canada during the depression. And when the time came dad bought a very used A40 Austin Dorset saloon that carried my older sister and brother to university in west Hamilton. \r\n According to the service manual, \"engine oil level should be checked daily.\" Also daily checked was the water level in the rad. Weekly attention recommended \"lubing the grease nipples of shackle pins, front wishbones, swivel axles and steering connections.\" Also, weekly recommendations included \"oiling hand brake gear, pedal gear, carb control joints\", and generally \"using the grease gun on nipples and the oil can on other joints.\" \r\n Yes, back then, our driveway was spotted with oil drips. Some of the A40 cars were converted to Gassers back in the 1960s and raced along Morris and Anglia. You can find great nostalgia race videos on YT. Post war England exported vehicles like the Austin to the US, Canada and particularly Australia and New Zealand where some A40 models are still on the road today! \r\n\r\nThe A40 came in a coupe (Dorset) for a limited 3 year run with only about 5k made per year, the much more common longer produced 4 door sedan (Devon), plus a sedan delivery van and a pickup as featured in this auction.\r\n\r\nThese are small vehicles but my A40 had been converted to a street rod in the 70s by a prior owner with a 350V8 and TH350 tranny connected to the rear end with a shortened drive shaft which looked to be about 15 inches. The car had a Mustang II front end with Girling brakes. A blast to drive but would overheat quickly. I sold it before I had a chance to upgrade a Summit racing radiator.
