Different character with the loud V8, but still a built car. I had a load of problems with the Push-To-Start system. A bunch of people couldn\u2019t figure it out. Turned out that there wasn\u2019t enough kick going to the starter - made sense, but there were many other problems suspected along the way to that diagnosis. The moral to that story was to keep things simple with a regular ignition key, but it goes to show that something which reliably works on a production car, became a real headache on the GTM. Like your car, the GTM also ended-up catching fire, a year or so after I sold it. The engines are always packed tightly under the hood and these cars aren\u2019t always wired and plumbed too well, considering the lack of space and extreme heat from tightly-packed headers. Mid-engine component cars are a lot of fun and garner a whole bunch of attention from onlookers who can\u2019t figure-out what they are, but you\u2019re not going to get anything like the peace of mind you get with a production car. During that time, the car picked up over 18,000 miles. Service requirements were light, with oil changes, a change in brake pads, and some initial nut and bolt inspections prior to my releasing it to the press. Autoweek evidently spun the car off track at their comparo test immediately prior to my receiving it, and bent a tie rod slightly, so there was that. It was a Ford part, easily replaced and aligned. The only factory issue was the need to re align the steering column shaft so that the U Joints were 90\u00ba to each other, eliminating a vague feeling of steering inaccuracy on the road. This was problem in a few cars, so I produced information for the Factory to ensure alignment between the primary and secondary steering joints was correct. I believe that I corrected 5 cars with this problem over the time I was doing Noble service. This included one M12 GTO. No parts required, but one does have to fold up to get into the foot well. Best to take out the seat, which gives you a chance to properly adjust the seat angle back, making the driving position extremely comfortable. \r\n\r\nWithout fail, each magazine that had the car kept it longer than the usual 1 week for evaluation. 10 magazines took the car to the track, and it was featured in a large comparo with Car and Driver, where it basically waxed the field, beating Porsche, Lamborghini, Corvette or Lotus it came up against in the 100\u00ba F track events, outlasting the Lamborghini and a couple of the other production machines. The only car that was very slightly quicker was the Atom, which lacks a body, so no shame in that (and it was still pretty close). C and D kept the car for an extra week before I got it back. They even liked the A/C. \r\n\r\nTrack events and drag strip testing didn't do anything at all to the car. The clutch was still stout (and as far as I know still in the car). There were no problems with overheating reported by the C and D crew at Buttonwillow. I replaced the tires 3 times, but one set was an ill advised lower profile setup, which made the car quite twitchy, removing the comfortable nature of the machine at the limit. After evaluation of the setup (including a spin by a guest driver on the road), I recommend, strongly, ONLY USE TIRES OF THE RECOMMENDED SIZES. Don't +1, or go wider or lower. It will only ruin the handling. There are few cars on earth as perfectly set up as the Noble. Springs, dampers, bushings, basic alignment... Perfect. \r\n\r\nThe cars are well made, the chassis straight and tough. Paint is amazing in its quality. Better than the Porsche Carrera GT I tested against when writing for a magazine. We never had any problems with the electrical system. Even the required \"immobilizer\" worked. \r\n\r\nMost Nobles were pro built, and delivered \"turn key\". Engines were from one supplier, and reliable. I have never seen a Noble built from owner scrounged parts. \r\n\r\nHP for the Ford Duratec V6s ran from around 375 HP to 450 HP, with the curb weight at around 2400 lbs. Remember, these cars have A/C and power steering. Any Noble is fast, with the GT)-3R at 4 seconds to 60 and the M400 at 3.1. Considering that there is a shift in there, the cars are really quick. I know that many enthusiasts think that the 3R needs more power, but it doesn't. It is genuinely quick, even by today's standards. It has better brakes, more grip, and will drive rings around just about anything, without a single chassis control nanny, and just a Quaife LSD. My 94 year old Mom could drift it. \r\n\r\nI was thinking the other day about which cars that I have driven professionally, that I would want in my drive way. #1 was the Noble. I remember when I met the GTO-3R, walking through the paddock with Danny Panoz. As we walked, Dan pointed to the blue Noble and said \"You need to drive that car. It's really good\". So I did. And so should you. \r\n\r\nAs for BaT's writing... They make a big deal about the quality of their writers and research, but in reality, you can see that they just fill out a form. There is no creativity or insight, mainly because most of their writers and staff have never driven, and in many cases even seen any of the cars that they write about. But... I guess that is the way it has to be, considering the format, as it is really just classified ads on what they hope are special cars. Set the ride height at the recommended setting. It's perfect. Ride height doesn't need changing, and you don't want to get into a bump steer problem, anyway. Also, suspension travel is useful, especially on real roads. 'Works perfectly well on the track too. Stick to the original tire sizes. You can use M400 tire sizes on a GTO3R. The original dampers are about perfect. Changing the dampers would require installing double adjustable that could get you back to the original valving. For most drivers, this is beyond their scope of experience. Stick with the stock parts. \r\nI have yet to drive a Noble M400 or 3R that was \"improved\" by messing with the suspension. Just leave the car in its original configuration. I am pretty sure that it isn't doing anything you didn't like. This includes not getting crazy because the 3R doesn't have a front anti sway bar, but the M400 does.
