There is one small chip layer of paint missing (size of finger nail) in the front and a weird dimple/dent (1/2 inch) under the driver side rocker panel. Becker stereo requires a code. I punched in the wrong numbers and got it stuck on \u2018please wait\u2019. Troubleshooting that now. Small triangular piece on one of the headlights has oxidation. Oil seep as mentioned is minor and only occurs under spirited driving. Some low frequency noise from the transmission. Butzi Gear replaced the fluid, did a complete road test, workup and stethoscope and said no worries on this. They drove it a lot when they rebuilt the suspension and had no issues. They can repair or replace the components they identify as problematic. My guess from all I have read and from conversations is this is a pinion bearing issue. A more extreme (faster) measure - which is likely not necessary - would be to contact someone like GBOX or California Motor Sports and do a complete replacement. I believe their rebuilt transmissions with LSD land in the 5K to 6K zone plus your installation cost. I imagine there are a number of people on this thread, on Rennlist, etc. who have a lot of experience and knowledge on the best options. Either way you will have a super tight build, and a great performing 911. I had every intention of bidding tomorrow because it's ticking an awful lot of boxes for me. After a lot of consideration and mental anguish, I have reconsidered due to the fact that I have no room, a debilitating car purchasing problem and some misgivings I can't shake about where things are heading. \n\nThat said, I wanted to give a shout out to the seller @scottiezac for taking the time to show me the car and let me take it for a quick drive. I have purchased a lot of cars, the vast majority of which were from private sellers. I'm here to tell you this seller is exactly the kind of guy you want to buy from. He's a real enthusiast and a genuinely nice guy that's easy to deal with. Perhaps more importantly, he is honest to a fault in case you haven't picked up on that.\n\nThis trans/diff issue which he disclosed is virtually impossible to notice. In my estimation, 99 out of 100 buyers would have driven away and never known better. We had to roll the windows up and be driving down a slight incline under load in order for it to make \"the sound.\" Even after hearing what he was trying to highlight to me, I would not have described it as anything worrying or even slightly problematic. I think he's being very conservative by saying it's not anything that will need to be dealt with anytime soon. The car drove perfect and sounded perfect and I have driven a lot of 986/996 cars. Again, it's impressive that he even disclosed it IMO. They have a cable throttle. The most analog driving experience for a water cool 911. Put a catless x pipe and you\u2019ll get some raw fuel smell too. Here are some general specs on the car, and 996's in general. Forgive me if you already know this stuff. A few things I have found that really affect the look/stance of this era of 911, in order of expense: First is very simple and easy. Depending on the wheels and tires you are running you can add spacers. With the OEM wheels I ran 10mm spacers all around just to widen the stance a bit. On the car as you see it pictured with the APEX racing wheels there are no spacers on the rear. Those rear wheels are very wide. The APEX setup has 10mm spacers on the front. APEX with Sumitomo high performance summer tires. 225/40/18 on front and 285/30/18 on rear. The final adjustment is expensive but makes a world of difference. The entire stock suspension setup was removed and replaced with Ohlins coil over and a bunch of other components. Handling is basically track-ready but still very comfortable for every day driving. The Ohlins system can be adjusted. Ride height on this 911 is lower than the stock look, which also makes for a more aggressive stance. Last note for supreme driving enjoyment: 996 Porsches have a notoriously tame exhaust note which offers the driver no feedback. The Fister mufflers open up the sound considerably so you can really hear that motor pulling in lower gears. A visceral experience. The beauty of the Fister mufflers is big sound when you want it, but no droning on the highway.
