There\u2019s a million of these motors out there.\r\n\r\nAll HEUI engines need good quality, clean (relatively speaking) oil more than non-HEUI. A thing to check is the oil supply line for the HEUI pump. If it still has the rubber line, there is an upgrade kit that replaces with a steel line. Old rubber lines can deteriorate and send little rubber bits into the injectors, causing big problems. The 3126 is a good engine. Its a commercial engine designed for medium duty trucks and other uses such as Terminal Tractors (Yard Goats) Generators and off road equipment (yellow iron) \r\nIt\u2019s not a sleeved engine like the Navistar DT\u2019s. So if the engine fails you just swing a remanned Cat (copper colored instead of yellow) and usually in a big shop your truck is back to you and on the job in a couple days. Downtime is critical for a truck that is making money. I\u2019ve seen these engines with 30,000 hours still performing. How? With rigorous Preventative maintenance programs. Ive sold hundreds of medium diesels in my career. The Cat 3108, 3126, Cummins ISB, ISC baby Detroits and Navistar DT\u2019s. Successful diesel owners understand these motors. Filters - oil, fuel and air cannot be put off. Most Pre- 2007 emission diesels that I lost on were engines that were not maintained. Engines produced after O7 originally had High Catalyst system. Caused Caterpillar to exit the over the road engine market after suffering many problems trying to comply with modern emissions. Engine life can be measured in miles, hours or fuel consumption. It\u2019s why a dump truck is ripe for overhaul at 350k when a Sleeper is around 900k. They have consumed about the same amount of fuel. Obviously the dump truck has a more severe purpose. \r\nIn 2010 Emission standards were higher. DIesel Exhaust Fluid was the answer. Another injector added to diesels but this time to mist the exhaust as it hits the catalytic. 1st generation DEF better than the advanced EGR but in my opinion it was still a revenue killer with downtime and expense. Gladly I retired in 2018. The headache of modern diesels took the fun out of Commercial sales. It seemed like the last 5 years of my career all I did was damage control for hard working over the road clientele.\r\nI own a pre-emission diesel Ford 6.0. Yes it\u2019s stripped of EGR and had the head studs. I\u2019ll never own a modern diesel without stripping it down.\r\nWith that said I wouldn\u2019t be afraid of this Sport Chassis.
