I\u2019ve got an 88 GTA with a mildly built 5.7 TPI and the original 5 speed that I took the original 5.0 out of in 2012 and have since put on about 7k miles. But I know of others that destroyed these trans after a few upgrades on their 305 so there are reliability issues even if I haven\u2019t experienced them personally. The next issue is the strength of the unibody, when you jam gears in these the body will twist unless you put subframe connectors or a roll cage in it (not as big of an issue with the hard top cars).
