The single carburetor is an HIF44. Here in Colorado we can go from 5,000 feet to 14,000 feet in about an hour. Correctly adjusting the single HIF44 for a weekend in the mountains is significantly easier than doing it with the twin HS2s. Great work @seller with stewardship and presentation! I recently decided to go the modern roadster route with a s2k, which made my Midget a bit expendable. I will be applying to list it here on @BaT in the very near future and will miss it sorely. A few things to point out: these cars are MUCH smaller than what you envision or even what is depicted in photos. It takes a certain technique to enter and exit, but once situated in the cockpit there is a surprising amount of room. Secondly, parts are very plentiful and they are fairly easy to wrench on. And lastly, the fun factor is off the charts. Having your 4th point of contact just a few inches off the deck while rowing thru gears and being eye level with F250 hubs in the lane next to you is a bonafide driving experience. If you're on the fence and have never experienced driving a LBC, this is a perfect specimen to go for it. I used to wash it incessantly, even taking the wheels off each time and washing the inside of those! i even autocrossed it, winning a couple of trophies in the process. But then, it started acting up, the carbs kept getting stuck open, or shut, and I would have to push it the last 1/4 mile home every day. After one too many pushing sessions, I resolved to sell it. I found a nice '65 Mustang coupe and set up a deal. The day before I was going to make the trade, I invited my sister out for one last ride to go see the Mustang. On our way back, I spied my favorite little twisty road and turned onto it. There I was, happily sawing at the wheel when I misjudged a right hander and put the left rear wheel out in the soft dirt. The wheel caught in the dirt and flipped us into the air. All I could see was brown dirt flying through the air and I waited for the inevitable stab of pain. BAM! We landed right side up. I didn't have a scratch! But when I looked over at my sister, she wasn't there! I saw her through the dust, lying on the ground about 15 yds away. I leapt out of the car and started running to her when I thought \"My CAR!!\", stopped in mid stride to turn around and look but then...\"MY SISTER\" and turned back to run to her. She had a broken jaw and a bruised shoulder. Ugh. It was years before she would ride in a car with me. I called my Dad and we got the car back to the house, took off the smashed windshield, and I drove it across the border to Juarez for some cheap bodywork. The frame was twisted and it crabbed down the road. They banged the fender out, gave it a quickie paint job, and we got a new windshield from the junk yard. I crab-drove it for another couple of weeks and then went to trade it in for a new 1979 Toyota Corolla Liftback. The salesman didn't even test drive the Midget and gave me almost as much as I paid for it! As you may know, there is no traditional rear main seal in these engines. Instead, the crankshaft has a reverse scroll that pulls the oil back into the engine. In theory, it works great, but as the crankshaft and rear main wear in each other, the gap gets big enough that some oil comes out. It's very common on these engines. I let the car run for 15 minutes and noted 2 drops of oil during that time, and another couple of drops in the 15 minutes after I shut it off. There are aftermarket seals you can install if you want, but most people just toss a piece of cardboard on the garage floor and don't worry about it.\r\n\r\nReminds me of an oft told joke: How do you know a British car is out of oil? On all of them, when stored for a long time, the rear main seal adheres to the crank, and tears slightly on startup.\nRare to find one that doesn't leak a little.
