It must fail to be replaced, a working unit will not be replaced. I have a 2005 E500 and the unit failed, brake pedal going to floor, only about 10% braking power, bright red warning lights in instrument cluster. Sometimes this would happen at start up, but not every time. Turn the car off, restart, and the system worked. But the code was stored in the computer and the dealership replaced the SBC after verifying that it was malfunctioning. Key here is dealership, this is not a reimbursement item, but a dealership replacement. The SBC unit replacement, with labor, is about $2,600 without the warranty. You do not need to be the original owner, just the current owner. So the SBC issue shouldn't be an issue for this car, you are probably covered until 2030, possibly longer (I believe that the warranty is for 25 years from date of production).\nAbout ride height. It is possible that this car has the suspension lowered via STAR or some other means. Or the bags can be failing (though probably not judging by the photos). I just replaced the front ones on my car with Arnotts. About $2,300, almost double the rears, because the fronts are so labor intensive. The suspension adjustment initiated by the driver controls firmness - Sport 1 or Sport 2. My E500, being a wagon and 4Matic, can be raised about 1/2 inch to get car out of snow or water, and has the Sport 1 & 2 adjustment. Sport 1 works best round town; Sport 2 works best rolling down Highway 1 through Big Sur. \nThat's about it.\nThis looks like a really clean car. Best thing here is the limited ownership. So many of these come up with 6 and 8 previous owners and that always raises questions for me. In 40,000 miles the only major work was replacing the stock rear airbags with Arnotts (around $1,500 then), a new intercooler pump ($400?), and a new crank-position sensor. The wagon had factory fixes for the SBC issue and fuel-tank replacement, both at no cost to the owner; by now, almost all have been done. There's Eastern corrosion to fasteners and the supercharger here; better undercarriage photos will help, but I'd bet the chassis is fine.\n\nOnly a few dozen were imported as 2005 and 2006 models, and the supercharged engine is renowned for its durability; mine now has 120,000 miles and still pulls like a train at very high speeds. Zero-60 in 4.2, I recall. The ultimate sleeper, too!\n\nA third seat precludes a normal spare, but if the seat is removed, a full-size tire will fit; I did this to mine. A service bulletin covers computer re-programming to allow the front passenger seat to move backward when the second-row seat back is lowered. Put a little glue on that star logo on the engine cover; otherwise it'll likely fall off (and is unavailable without buying the whole cover). Highway fuel economy is surprisingly good: 23 mpg on interstates; in town maybe 15. The self-leveling rear suspension is wonderful. Lack of Keytronic is probably a blessing. The biggest surprise was the brakes, the best of any car I've owned. Maintenance costs are far more reasonable than for an E63 AMG, and the cars are appreciating.
