Glad someone took them off. Also Beetle bound for the USA at this VIN would have had egg tail lamps. This is what is considered a late 1955. 1955 is the year that VW switch from calendar year to August to August like the US manufacturers. So, there are only 7 months of 1955's . During that time period there are three change in the US market, Early, Late and the final which made the exterior resemble the 1956 with bullet turn signals, bigger tail lamps. All Europeans Had heart tail lamps. They continued thru chassis 1-0871207, when the semaphores were dropped in April of 1955. Here's the fun 19555 stuff, Over riders were added to the bumper at chassis number 1-08869851. That's 1356 cars that could have had eggs and over riders. But keep in mind that they didn't build all US Export models at the same time, so US market cars were intermingled in that 1,356. I once had a 1955 with eggs and over riders. The over rider bar ran right in front of the tail lamp lens. Not very safe. This is considered a late 1955 and the Blue interior would have been a special order. But I am not sure of its originality. The interior appears to have had some paint work done in the past because the steering column should be beige instead of blue. the wind lace on the b pillars should not be red also. There is some confusion with the Strato Silver which is more like Polar Silver. When I restored my early '56 Rag (round front/square back), the original color was Strato Blue Metallic. Finding the formula was very difficult. We ended up color matching the original paint radio delete and glove box door after I order the paint via code and it was silver and not blue. I have seen several shades of the same blue, some with more greyish tones and some with brighter blues. I am partial to this color and hope it fetches a hefty sum. I would love to see it rolling on the original wheels,..but the will be up to the new owner to ditch the Empi wheels. Is the headliner original with the Red pipe wind lace? Perhaps the original color for the seats was red? or was it available with red and blue and the tan/oatmeal carpet? There is a chance that the car was ordered with overrides (ram protection) as that was an option as early as 54. ( The three piece trunk liner by the way looks very well done. ) In addition more pics of the vent wing chrome, the steering column looks rusty from a distance so a better pic would help see what's going on there. I had a '55 convertible and those details are just another great piece of the early car's desirability. Does the horn work? What about the fuel reserve lever? Pics of where the fenders bolt to the car can help determine condition and originality also. The Bugs from I believe 61 and down had tubes from the headlight bucket to the body for the wires. A photo of under each front fender would be a great help in determining if those fenders are original.\r\nThe other thing is that the factory started building the next years model in September. So a 55 car could have been built in 1954. They also used up the parts from the previous year even if the new model had a small change such as the spare tire well.
