Photos of the pump cover show a coolant crust around the water pump cover. The cover is leaking as intended. When replacing the water pump use the Saab OEM tool intended to remove and replace the new pump. B engine water pump parts are near unobtanium, so start a search for the proper parts. As this design evolved there are multiple versions of the water pump repair kit parts. The last version is backwardly compatible, use that version! Depending on how long the pump was leaking the cylinder head *may* be warped and need surfacing to flatten out. I have owned 4 B engine 99s ('75 LE, '78 GL & 2 '79 GL). A '75 and '79 required new water pumps, both receiving the last version of the repair kit. When replacing the water pump simply follow the instructions in the red bible (Saab 99 Service Manual). \r\nThere also kits available to eliminate the mechanical water pump and using a electric powered pump. The electric water pump is supposedly a very good option, although I have only seen one electric pump installed. I would expect to find a 5-digit odometer in a 1975 99, this car has a 6-digit. From the handy-dandy Saab 99 Service Manual, a 1975 99 for the California market should have Proportional EGR, Air Injection, deceleration dashpot and 8.7:1 compression. All those seem to be present on this car, although I can't see the EGR controller (it would be down behind the left front turn signal or headlight with 3-4 vacuum hose connections.) The service manual refers to resetting the EGR counter, so it appears that the light is turned on by the same type of cable-driven counter as was used to turn on the light for oxygen sensor replacement in lambda cars later on. My '77 EMS had nearly the same emission system and I got it all working properly and it drove really well. People tend not to realize that the ignition timing specs are with EGR and if you pull that you get spark knock because EGR works by cooling the combustion temp (which reduces NOx formation).
