Not knowing what I had purchased, little written about the Marcos in those days, I found myself attending the Nurburgring historic races in the late 1990's and one was on the pole.....ahead of 289 FIA Cobra's, no less. The far superior aero and light weight was evident in the race, better top end and much deeper into the braking zones. It won! It was the same 1800 Volvo engine model that had raced at the Ring in the mid-60's. The cross flow Ford makes at least as much power, and this one also has similar displacement. I'm just saying, these are GREAT race cars, very competitive and easily converted to street use. As many know, later converted to Chevy race engines and again won in the later stages of the model. The early wood chassis cars are a classic in there own right, a tribute to the genius of Frank Costin, a partner of Jem Marsh at the time. I hope the mis-labeling by BAT didn't drive away any potential bidders...\r\n\r\nI saw a yellow Marcos at a British car show in Denver a dozen years ago, I was figuring out how many pieces I could grab for my Spitfire (or if I could get the fiberglass bodies I could create new cars.. ;-) The bonnet latches are... uh... really familiar. :D\r\n\r\nIt's not a knock on Marcos, the small constructors in England raided the parts bins at Standard Triumph for suspension parts. And the steering rack looks like the same Alder and Ashford unit on the TR6/Spitfires. \r\n\r\nThe initial offer to deliver car and trailer had me checking the distance, I was 150 miles out of range.
