That big 4.2 litre engine is all torque. It pulls like a train, even in top gear and dropping rpm down to 1000. Step on the gas, and it jumps. So easy to drive, so ahead of it's time. Jaguar learned so much from their racing program in the 50's. All those lemans wins, and the technology was poured into the E Type. Double a arms, rack and pinion, disc brakes, when Ferrari was still using drums in 1961. Fully independent suspension, front and rear, double coil over shocks in rear...all this in a package that left other manufacturers scratching their heads, how is Sir William able to do this at this price? It still feels modern today when you drive it. It is the perfect vintage sportscar, looks, performance, and comfort. You're even wrapped in leather inside, with a beautiful wooden steering wheel to boot. In 1961, not too many other production cars could do 0-60 in 7 seconds with a 145 mph top end. Great exhaust note as well. If jaguar had made 500, I suspect they would be well over $1 million. We did not put in the hours to disassemble the dash to pull out the speedo to see if there was a label on the replacement (which may or may not have had the original mileage recorded on it), since it was not critical info for this owner. Absent complete and immaculate documentation from day one to the present, actual mileage is pretty much impossible to determine. I can assure you the Jag was driven often by the previous owner which is how I was introduced to it.\r\n\r\nAs for the manifold coating, porcelain was stock but porcelain replacement kits tend to be unreliable and since delamination doesn\u2019t affect performance, replacement was not critical for this owner.\r\n\r\nThe cams are also stock; there are no engine mods. \r\n\r\nAs to the original colour of the car, I must rely on the official Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate dated 21 August 2020 and its precursor, from Jaguar Daimler, dated 30 July 1990. If photo #350 is indeed from 1995, with an odometer reading of 70,721, it shows that the odometer didn't move between 1995 and 22 August 2013 (photo #368 Service receipt) when it is reported as reading 70,722. As I understand it, you acquired the car in 2013, and say you have done around 4,000 miles in it, but the current odometer reading is only 71,290. None of this makes sense unless the odometer has not been working. Then I see photo #377 from June 2018 that reports that \"the odometer is not working\"! This pretty much explains everything, but means that the mileage since the 1995 restoration is likely unknown. So, we don't know how many miles the engine has done since the rebuild, for example. Anything that you can do to provide more info would help. You feel like you could dive right into the car. My '66 FHC is this exact color combination, and I love it! I love photography, and I am often challenged to capture the color in a photograph as my eyes see it - especially when it is bright outside with multiple reflections that can disrupt the lines of the car.\n I would change out the manifolds to ceramic if planning to drive it often - - not quite as pretty as pristine porcelain, but much prettier than cracked porcelain! I'm not sure if it's the tire profile, or the suspension set-up, but this car is riding too high - especially in the rear - at least to my eyes. I'm sure the next owner can easily remedy this. GLWA - - looks like a real stunner!!
