A test drive recently of Alfa Romeo SUV (aka: big ole station wagon with 4 wheel drive), shocking with regard to the levels of performance, handling and speed, comfort, safety and economy this nearly two ton mini truck made available, like chalk & cheese to my old 77 Spyder... I became the car's 4th owner for a tiny sum of money as compared to today (about $2700 iirc) and it was truly a remarkable find. It only had traveled about 70k miles and half of that was being flat towed behind an RV as told to me by the 2nd owner who worked with the 1st owner. I was lucky enough to share it with my parents and they both loved experiencing this wonderful car from their youth.\r\n\r\nI ended up keeping it for almost 5 years and foolishly sold it in 2007 and lost track of it ever since then. It moved to NC and I have never seen it for sale again. One of these days it would be a lot of fun to own one of these again!\r\n\r\nFunny anecdote: the oil drain plug is almost as large as the 22 mm on my old 280z's and my '72 had the 18RC engine (maybe 19 mm). I have owned a few first-gen Celicas, and they are one of my absolute favorite cars made. The styling is just awesome - and totally an experience when you get to see one in person. Photos almost never carry across how truly tiny these cars really are! I remember seeing on on the highway a few years after I sold my last one, and it was remarkable how petite - and beautiful - it was, compared to everything else around it. \n\nThere is also nothing quite like driving them - with all four windows down. The hardtop/pillarless thing is pretty neat. The controls are nicely placed, and everything works well. I have also driven loads of these cars in varying states of modification, and admittedly, the modified cars with an 18R-G or built \"hybrid\" 20R/22R were the most fun. Still, they are a joy in stock form, if you are the kind of person who likes small, light, RWD cars. \n\nIf you're like me - and I know I am - you love small, light, RWD cars. \n\nThe hood alignment can be a little fiddly, especially if anything has been bumped or unbolted up front. It's also critical to take great care with the hood hinges, as they are no longer available from Toyota. A parts guy told me I bought the last set in the late 90's, but I am not sure if that was true. Same goes for a lot of parts of these cars, though you can sometimes find rare, special or even NOS parts on eBay. The rest of them are stored safely by parts hoarders!! Can't blame them, of course. \n\nThis one looks great. As far as these cars you, you really never see them this nice, or really at all any more. It does have some needs, and some folks probably want to change a few minor details, but you could take it - as it sits - to the Japanese Classic Car show, and it would be just fine. \n\nThe '71 really is an incredibly special model - because it's the only one with the fuel tank where we would normally find a spare tire, and the filler behind the license plate. The later models had the fuel tank up higher, and right behind the back seat. All of the trim pieces are precious, and that rear tail-light set is at the top of the list. \n\nBeautiful car, and best of luck with the auction. When I was a kid, I used to talk about how I felt these would become classics one day, and got laughed at a lot.
