I have been told this is very common. That said if you're in the market the Spider was arguably the best TR7 Triumph built. While Rich is right about this car missing several elements of the Spider package keep in mind the Spider was strictly an appearance package. It's stunning to look at but unlike Rich I didn't care for the seats, to me they looked like a seat swap for a different car.\r\n\r\nNowadays a truly correct Spider is hard to find because maintaining those elements (paint, interior) for 42 years is very difficult and replacements are nonexistent. Those things could be recreated but it would be custom and very expensive. Given the current market value of the TR7 bringing a Spider back to original spec doesn't make much sense. Oftentimes a gauge will read either full or empty due to deposit buildup on the sending unit. I\u2019ve found one or 2 bottles of Techron II concentrate will dissolve said buildups within two tankfuls or less of gas. This cured my C5 Corvette and a Harley. As preventative maintenance, I add Techron to all my vehicles once a year or so. What concerns me is the non functional temp gauge, it's the most important gauge in the car. If a TR7 overheats you're looking at a blown head gasket and possibly a warped head. The best way to prevent that has been to keep an eagle eye on the temp gauge.
