There are three really compelling qualities about this car and which make it such a rare collectible. First, it has the original motor and transmission, both of which have been professionally rebuilt. This is rare for these cars as they were built for the track and most original owners happily tortured the motors while racing, blowing many of them. Second, while BAT is not comfortable calling the rebuild effort a 'restoration' if a car is not 100% rebuilt with exact original parts, it is far more than a refurbishment, which suggests a quick job. I bought the car in 2014, it sat for a few years, did a bunch of metal work, sat for another year or two and for the past 2-3 years, it has been a steady effort to build and gather correct parts. It is therefore one of the very freshest and most recent rebuild/restoration so the buyer is getting a brand new rebuilt Machine. Third, and naysayers can justifiably say 'prove it,' this is believed to be a super low miles example of a Rebel Machine. The previous owner bought the car from original owner and stated the 19,588 miles are original. The car is said to be off the road since the mid-1970s. Other AMC enthusiasts in the area (upstate New York near Syracuse) have vouched for the credibility of the low-miles claim. An online forum had several locals who also believed the low-miles claim (when the car was listed for sale back in 2014). When the car was rebuilt, the brake pad had almost zero wear. The brakes were original. The evidence provided by the car also suggests the fact that the car is one of the lowest miles Rebel Machines. Can we prove it? No. However, all the physical evidence and anecdotal evidence lead us to conclude its a credible claim. I haven't shipped anything in the past year since diesel skyrocketed. I would guess $5K more or less. There will be a border crossing fee where governments like to vacuum a bit of our money, I believe this will be in the $1K range depending on sale price. The logistics of importing from Canada is paperwork nuisance, I have an account with a border broker in Maine and can assist with the paperwork side, its not complicated just bureaucratic stuff on both sides of the border. \r\n@1970AMX, the bumper guard comment is new to me, I bought an NOS 'pair' but maybe that seller didn't know the difference just like me. The Air Guard system consisted of an air pump, bypass valve, and an air distribution manifold which had tubes that connected to each exhaust manifold. The Machine engine was unlike other AMC V-8's in that it had no heat riser valve or exhaust heat stove that went up to an elongated snorkel on the air cleaner. \r\n\r\n If you are wanting total correctness, the door panels are just a close approximation, and the carpet should be cut pile rather than loop pile. Sway bar was absent from both of my Machine projects, also from a 70 Ambo and 71 Ambo. But apparently, all four had it removed at some point because they should have all been born with the rear bar. I will be adding the sway bar this week, I just confirmed this evening that a colleague has one on a 70 Rebel parts car, which I will buy. \r\nSmog parts are not present. My car is power brakes, standard steering car, I am advised there would have been additional bracketry to accommodate smog on a standard steering car, which were also not present on my car. There were apparently some exclusions for smog here in Canada according to one of my trusted AMC gurus, but this car was not Canadian-built, so either it came without smog or it was removed very early on in its life. \r\nThe bumper guards are interesting - many Machines do not have front or back. Some have front, not back. Or back but not front. I am advised it was a dealer option, hence the hodge-podge of original Machines that have different original looks. Mine has none on rear and will have the front ones corrected per your earlier note. I would say that few still have the parts unless they have been sourced and added. Looks more expensive than originals.\r\n\r\n The rear sway bar was a part of the handling package, which was standard on the Machine and optional on other Rebels and Ambassadors. So, few Rebels and Ambassadors probably had that option.\r\n\r\n As far as the bumper guards go, the 1970 AMC Data Book says that there was an option of \"front and rear bumper guards.\" Other cars, such as AMX and Javelin had rear bumper guards only optional, which I ordered on my car. The tranny (aka what we called gear boxes back then) was cast iron & heavy as all get out \u2013 believe it was a cast iron T10. My mom tried to help me out, she asked a few folks, and they told her to tell me I needed a \u201cBorg & Beck\u201d clutch\u2026 Whose mom does that??? Then again, she was a Lt. I believe that the 401 cam which came out at the start of 1971 production is the same cam as the Type 2 cam. \r\n\r\nThe reason that I believe this is because no cams at the time had that much lift with the short .050 duration that Type 1 had. It would have been a sharp-nosed camshaft for sure that would have been noisy and wouldn't wear well due to the need for strong valve springs, which it did not have. It would have been well under the 47.5% ratio of duration versus .050 lift with 1.5 rocker arm (dividing .431 lift with 1.5 rockers into 196 duration at .050) that Isky said was necessary for cam life at the time. Also, I can't imagine that cash strapped AMC designed a cam for one engine for less than one year. The fact that the Type 2 and 401 cams had the same lift and only an \" advertised\" duration difference points to that also. They changed the \"advertised\" 401 cam duration to 296/303, which was 30 to 37 degrees more duration than Type 1. As with all the manufactures back then, there was a lot of variations of any model and to many people now think that cars were only built one way and were true to what the sales brochure showed but that's far from the truth. I've been around Mopar's for many years as well and they're no different. All of them were thrown together to get them out the door so what is considered correct varies quite a bit. While I don't necessarily call myself an AMC expert I have owned many, worked as a mechanic at an AMC dealership in '76-'77 and again in'80-'81 and have worked on, modified, and raced AMC's, primarily AX'ing a '68 Javelin in the D/FW area from the late 80's to about '88 when I found an AMX and started autocrossing it. I love all AMC's, yes, including Pacers. \r\n\r\nI have a full page ad that AMC put out giving ALL the specs on Rebel Machines. If I weren't so inept at attachments I would attach it here for everyone to see. And, yes, I have tried to copy and paste and drag and drop...nothing!\r\n\r\nThis ad gives many, many details, including the cam specs. Which are:\r\nIntake duration 206, lift 457. Then in parenthesis 18*BTC-68*ABC. \r\nExhaust is the same duration and lift but in parenthesis 06*BBC-20*ATC. \r\nI should know what that means but I have no idea. And I made sure to get the numbers and letters correct. Maybe this will help clarify the questions about Machine cams. \r\n\r\nSome other Machine specs that I haven't seen mentioned here but possibly have been. \r\n\r\nAll Machines had 3:54 final drive gears with 3:15 being an option for automatics and 3:91 an option for 4 speeds, with the Twin Grip diff being a mandatory option with the 3:91s. Available \"Vari-Power\" power steering with 16.0-12.2:1 ratio, overall 21.7-16.5:1 (not sure what that means) 3.2 turns lock to lock. All Machines had front and rear stabilizer bars, .94 front, .95 rear. All came with 11.4 power front disc brakes and 10\" rear drums. All Machines with auto trans had floor shifts, no column shifts. I know someone did mention the exhaust system, which was 2.25\" from manifold to muffler, then 2.00\" after the mufflers. All AMC 390's, whether it went into an AMX or an Ambassador wagon, had forged cranks and rods, as did all 401s. \r\n\r\nThis ad gives many more details, going as far as to list piston ring specs!! However, despite claims of \"399\" hp, a bone stock Rebel machine has no chance against an L78 396 Chevelle unless the Rebel has 3.91 gears and the Chevelle has 3.31 (or 3.08). Why is that? The Chevelle was rated at a mere 375 hp and weighed about the same as a Rebel Machine. The difference is the L78 motor has a much bigger carb, a solid lifter cam with .520 lift and 240 duration @ .050 lift. The L78 has a \"porcupine\" head that is better than the dog-leg head, which, is itself, a pretty good cylinder head. AMC 390 motors were in a low state of tune in 1968 & 69. In 1970 they were warmed up a bit, but still pretty mild compared to the L78, W30 & 31, Stage 1 455, Ram Air IV, Boss 302 & Cleveland motors; Ram Air III: 366 Hp versus Ram Air IV @ 370 HP. comparing the two motors shows that either the RA III was overrated or the RA IV was under-rated. So, to be sure, AMC motors were generally not on the same level as other high-perf V8s. A bigger carb, more cam & tubular headers transforms the 390. As the person at McCleod clutch told me after viewing the destroyed clutch discs: \"you can't use that disc, it is for small block Chevys\".
