I replaced the overriders on my '73 but I think the process is a bit more involved for the rear at least on the later cars. It would be nice if someone with a '74 could pipe up and clarify. The AC is pretty straight forward and the Harrison A6 compressor is relatively easy to rebuild. Likely the compressor will need to be rebuilt/replaced, new hoses, a drier and evaporator at a minimum to change it over to 134 if done correctly. That is assuming that the compressor didn't seize up and grenade in the system. It adds air to the manifolds in the \"overrun\" condition, (engine revs high but throttle shut, common in deceleration), which leans the over rich mixture produced by the carbs in that situation, preventing backfiring and unburnt fuel in the exhaust. Naturally you would want that air to be clean so the pipe feeding the valve that is absent here comes from one airbox via one of two routes depending on the year. I believe there is an added level of vacuum control on the later models also. It feeds the 5/8\" crossover pipe, which, can be made without a centre Tee quite easily and so take it away completely. \r\n\r\nAs to emission control in general, the temperature vacuum valve is removed, (pic 87) and this late model E also had an EGR system which was a complete dog of a thing which is also removed. (pic 88) and the air injection rails to each cylinder are removed as is maybe the air pump althoiugh we cannot see that. All this is generally to the good IMO. No photo allows a view of the vacuum advance or retard that I can see which is important as conversion to vac advance and ported vacuum on the source carburetor is an important modification if not the most to get the engine running well. \r\n\r\nPic 82 shows a cool cats spin on oil filter conversion or equivalent which is nice but it also shows steel exhaust down pipes which seems frivolous given this investment as these must have been removed given the work shown on the motor and this could have been done in stainless along with the rest of the exhaust at very small cost.
