I\u2019ve had this car about three and a half years and in that time spent a good chunk of time and money getting it properly sorted after a lengthy and dreaded sitting time where the deferred maintenance accumulated. I feel confident this car has been brought back to a condition commensurate with the 90s S-Klasse and more specifically the M120 V12 as being the best or nothing. I\u2019ll spare the superlatives out of the gate, but rest assured driving one of these validates what many feel is MB\u2019s high water mark. The first year V12 in \u201892 had the highest HP output for one year only. The rear executive four passenger placement is extremely rare, perhaps one of ten received that factory treatment. I believe the paint to be all original as shown by consistent paint meter readings and clean Carfax. The interior, especially the seats , looks amazing. There is a small sag beginning to develop in the headliner at passenger rear, otherwise looks great. I updated the Carfax with all hard copy service records I have in my possession going back to 1998. There are some gaps but I feel it shows a car consistent with 70K miles and one owner who climate controlled stored it from day one. The analog odometer was replaced at some point (as is fairly common with these early W140\u2019s) so it is a TMU listing here, but my Colorado Title shows \u2018Actual Mileage\u2019 as did the title prior. I am selling the car because it is one of eight (including the \u201894 C140 and \u201893 500E seen in pic gallery) and I am moving states so time to downsize. No service bill has been declined or deferred since I\u2019ve owned the car, if you\u2019d like to contact StarTech (probably the best MB analog independent in Colorado) to discuss mechanicals that can be easily arranged. You should be able to go to a dealer and get a vmi done that would show the details. They probably won't give it to you but I think they would let you see it. Looks like you have done a lot of work to this car. The new owner will have a ready to enjoy car here. The only thing I can think of on the shimmy is possibly the front lower control arm bushings. If they have never been replaced the probably need it now. The tech that suggested the tires could flat spot is correct. This car weighs 5000 pounds. It has V rated tires which are a little softer than H rated. I'm not sure but they changed the speed limiter on the 140s to 130 I think in 93 or 94 so they could use H rated tires\r\nI think I've only seen 1 or 2 140s with the individual rear seats. Very rare option indeed.\r\nProbably more rare is the working mirror and working back up pins. Amazing.. Tire Rack recommended specifically this set of Michelins after my first question of what do they recommend for such a big heavy car. They may have missed the mark on their recommendation. Looking like right front tire might be culprit but tire only has a few thousand miles and three years on it so did not replace it. Jag was even less. At 400-hp these cars were monsters.\r\n\r\nUnfortunately, their history had lots of ups and downs.\r\n\r\nThe W140 was unloved for too long.\r\n\r\nThe chips were stacked against MB with this model. \r\nThe world was still in mourning after the loss of the iconic W126, the styling was received with luke warm reception, the cars were mis-understood and AMG were not really making many exciting pre-merger models (compared to the 126). Emissions laws were fast changing and the Japanese economy was tanking.\r\nThen during Ca$h 4 Clunkers we lost so many in 2007-2008 coupled with many Indys that were not well equipped or trained to work on them and owners let them fall apart.\r\n\r\nThese great cars were basement bargains for way too long. I remember cycling all around Denver and then in Houston during the early 2000s and seeing so many of these cars decaying in alley ways, seedy looking mechanic shops, covered in weeds in driveways or the side of a garage. \r\n\r\nFast forward to today, I feel like the W140 is really starting to come into their own (about time!). The specialness of the S class is less profound today than it once was. Gearheads are realizing how great these cars really are especially highline models with the V8 M119, V12 M120 or the Coupes. \r\n\r\nThese cars are new enough to drive every day, safe, all the amenities, reliable (when maintained properly), the right amount of \"tech and luxury\" BUT yet old enough to be considered a \"Young Timer Klassic\".\r\n\r\nI don't think I will own a 140, as I am swimming in 126s right now (just sold one on BaT last week) but will always admire them and fly their flag high.
