It varies so much depending on engine, etc. I have owned BMWs, Mercedes, VW, Toyota, Subaru, Honda, Acura, Dodge, and so on. The key is with european cars is sourcing your parts correctly and either doing the work yourself or finding a great indie mechanic. Mercedes dealerships will rip you a new one. I am blessed to live next to one of the best mechanics I've ever met, sooo the work I need from time to time is very reasonable. I'd estimate I have spent $1000 a year or so on overall maintenance. Now mind you, I had a rotating schedule of preventative maintenance items over the past 4 years that I had no record the previous owner completed. I also do not accept any sort of noise in my car, hence why you see records of strut mounts, wheel bearings etc. That was all chasing 2 noises.
