The thing about PreWar Classics like ACD cars is they have a pretty steady value-they tend to go up a bit each year, and aren't as susceptible to wide value fluctuations as are say Muscle cars that are directly effected by the economy. \r\n\r\nWhat happens on BaT may not reflect the overall market for Pre War Full Classics. In his well respected MASTER CORD LIST at Page 95 ( 9/17A edition) ACD Club Historian Ron Irwin shows 1937 S/C Phaeton Serial #31657H as having Present Engine #FC2794 but an original Engine #FC2140. The CMC Body # is shown to have been C91-475. The Seller indicates the car is now registered in Ohio by a number tag attached to the right side of the firewall above the serial/ID plate. From the photo image provided this plate appears to be a reproduction and the replacement engine number is shown. Perhaps a contact with Ron Irwin or a response from the Seller @Significant_Cars can clarify this engine number issue. The 810 Cord appearance was akin to a space ship landing in the middle of the salon, they were so far advanced over everything else offered at the time. \r\n\r\nSeveral improvements were made for the 1937 Model year, that is when the supercharged option was made available, etc. Many Cords had their engines replaced early in their lives-often at the Factory which kept a service branch open at the factory long after the company ceased operation. Others more well versed in the ACD Club Certification system can comment on this but I believe that a Cord is still granted certification if the engine has been changed.\r\n\r\nThis whole numbers matching thing is important when looking at a muscle car where there were several different engines offered in the same model of car. Obviously its possible to dummy up a big block Corvette, so it important to know if the Vette started life as a big block car or not. Putting a 427 in a 327 vette has materially changed the car. \r\n\r\nIn Pre War cars there is typically only one engine option available so we dont tend to care as much as long as the car has a CORRECT engine. \r\n\r\nThat being said the marketplace will always value a car that is as it started life more so than one that has been changed for whatever reason. \r\n\r\nBut to answer your question its pretty common place in 810/812 Cords, and the 37 is the more desirable year due to the improvements made that year.\r\n\r\nDisclaimer: this is my opinion-I often stand corrected-and others may have different opinions.
