Can you kindly shed some light here??\r\n\r\nWhat condition was the bike in when you got it from your uncle back in 2014, and how many miles were showing on the odometer at that time? The listing is vague here also, unless we are supposed to assume that your uncle only rode the bike 890 miles over 45 years and then stored it hermetically sealed such that the paint, chrome, polished aluminum, rubber parts etc were all perserved in the near-perfect condition shown in the photos. Haha, just kidding to make a point, but however unlikely this may be it is not out of the realm of possibility either! To eliminate any further guesswork, please elaborate on what was or was not done during your 10 years of ownership, specifically:\r\n- is the paint original, or if not when was it repainted, and is there clearcoat over the red?\r\n- is the chrome original, and are the exhaust pipes, silencers & heat shield original or have they been replaced with reproduction parts?\r\n- do both wheel rims have the JONES and MADE IN ENGLAND stampings?\r\n- were the instruments replaced and/or restored?\r\n- I can see that the fuel lines and air filters were also replaced along with the carbs... Can you think of anything else that was replaced on your watch? Fork gaiters? Cables? Tires?\r\n\r\nSince you've only ridden it 10 miles, and if your uncle did indeed store it under ideal conditions, perhaps there was no need to restore any of the cosmetics or replace any other parts... Which would be great of course! It is fairly rare BSA twin model, at least when compared with the Lightnings and Thunderbolts, and not as often seen at the vintage Brit Bike gatherings. The high-level exhaust (and left side cover) are unique to 69' and 70' Firebirds and this tank was only used on the 69'. The only thing that I have done with this bike is take it to Baxter Cycle earlier this year to have it completely gone through. They replaced some cables, carburetors, plugs, changed fluids, replaced some seals and made sure everything was in good working condition. Prior to doing this it was garage art.
