Changing to the conventional brakes meaning changing the entire pedal box, that normally means a dash R&R.\r\nThe ABS system is unfairly maligned, normally works very well and provides excellent breaking feel. The always on brake light is almost certainly caused by broken ABS wheel sensors.\r\nThose ABS sensors have been NLA for decades, the brake system works fine without them. \r\n\r\nOkay so without those sensors you don't actually have ABS brakes you just have conventional brakes, but if removed the whole system you would also just have conventional brakes.\r\nThe ABS system (having a powered brake pump) makes bleeding the rear inboard calipers easy. Given the era and maturity of the technology the ABS could be helpful and was not invasive. In the 80k miles I drove an '87 the ABS was consistent in rain/snow/ice. Only once did I get an activation on dry ashpalt under very hard braking.\n\nThe brakes were flushed/bled at 45k miles. They gave me no trouble but then my car was only a few years old back then. LOL\n\nThat warning light on the dash could be a number of things but the brake light switch on these had multiple sets of contacts in them. One set tended to pit/burn so even though the brake lights worked the warning light would stay on. The clutch, pressure plate, and flywheel are sold as a single rebuilt, balanced unit, cost around $1,400 and can be out of stock for extended periods. The parking brake handle position indicates the cable needs replaced, or the rear calipers need adjustment or may have reached their limit. Our family has owned the car for 31 years. It was our daily driver for about six years, then was in storage, indoors. We drove it a bit in the mid 90's as well. We are retiring and moving to the east coast in the next couple of years, and don't think a fun car fits in our future living arrangements. We have enjoyed the Milano and think it is time to have someone else enjoy it. I appreciate all of the comments. It runs well and I plan to put a cold start video up soon. I don't have exact estimates of the work that could be done. I think the exhaust parts that need replacement are the middle and rear sections. Some people prefer to replace the middle mufflers with straight pipes. These parts are readably available and don't seem that expensive. The brake system is working well, the ABS pump builds pressure and shuts off at the appropriate time. Someone mentioned the ABS wires to the wheels, and looking at old receipts, one was replaced in the past. It would seem logical that another could be problematic. I would be happy to answer other questions. We have really enjoyed the car. It's fun to drive and is still a \"head-turner.\" All the best. Back to the Wizard for the install. Additionally, it will need the fuel tank cleaned and the in tank filter removed with an external solution spliced in just before the pump. That will take care of the \"air brakes\" that slam on after 3500 RPMs. Then it will be on to addressing additional electrical problems that are preventing the heater from working and the radio from functioning properly. There is a short that also causes all of the instrumentation to go haywire.
