In 2019 this one came on the market at Celebrity Motorcars, Las Vegas. They still have some videos posted on youtube. The car was originally bought in Southern California. Over the years made its way to Hot Springs, AK. Was restored, exterior only, by that owner during 2015-2017 for an amazing $23K. Made its way to Celebrity by 2019 from whom I bought it. Paint was still beautiful except a small paint bubble on the right rear quarter panel. Even the rocker panel seams are visible. I\u2019ve had the doors apart. Drain holes are clear. The windows go up and down\u2026a significant improvement over the as-purchased condition.\r\n\r\nGoing through the car post-purchase, I found pin holes in the floor pan under the rear seats. Got the body-off floor pan replacement done and new ball joints in 20202. Then turned my attention to the interior. Was original but rotting. Seat frames were bent. A Sewfine upholstery kit and new seats made a big difference. Still have the original seats if the buyer would like them. Not knowing the engine RPMs bothered me and the clock didn\u2019t work so I installed a tach in the dashboard clock space. I\u2019d be more than happy to include the clock with the purchase. \r\n\r\nDid find that the piano wires activating the rear vent floor level vents are disconnected. Have not reconnected those. The heater boxes/exhaust plumbing are intact. The heater works about as well as the bitter Southern California winters require. No evidence of rust in the heater channels or rocker panels. The radio works. All lights/turn signals work. Transmission/clutch seem happy with smooth shifting in all gears\u2026except first which, from the factory, has no synchro.\r\n\r\nVery pretty presentation in the factory Adriatic Blue color. Not sure if the engine is original but the receipts do not show any major engine work. There is no evidence of accident repair. Door lines and gaps are period-tight. The trunk lid is slightly misaligned on the passenger side. Nose is factory perfect. Mileage indicates 9K miles but after 50 years I\u2019d have to go with \u201ctrue mileage unknown\u201d. The car does run and drive great. I own a \u201871 Ghia coupe that was originally Amber, but was repainted some years prior to my acquisition in what I now believe to be Navy Blue (according to the color chart provided by the seller here). It is such a light blue that I find it funny that VW called it \u201cNavy Blue\u201d. Anyway, while I LOVE my car, this one\u2019s body appears to be in better shape overall than mine. Mine has had it\u2019s nose dented at one time and it had been fixed, but only primed and not painted, and the primer was failing, so I had it done properly. While this one\u2019s interior isn\u2019t stock, or redone to appear like when new, I think it is well done, and looks very nice. You can see the original paint in the engine compartment and in the trunk, so it looks like they repainted in the original color. It probably looks unique to us because you don\u2019t see that many 71 Ghias in that color. It was only a two year color. Very stunning. Would have originally had a light sand or black interior, but spotting that bit of black vinyl around the rear seat bottom I\u2019m betting this one had a black interior.\r\nThe interior is what it is. Very expensive redo, PO used wool square weave carpets which are pricey. They weren\u2019t laid down very well, you can see the forward bulkhead piece falling off and the tunnel piece has wrinkles, but a day spent with good contact cement could fix that easily enough. The rest is clean and decently done.\r\nThe body and paint is driver level. Lots of orange peel, some chips etc, but presents well. Gaps are really nice. Body doesn\u2019t show any signs of metal replacement at first look.\r\nA lot of the bright work other than the bumpers look original and not re chromed.\r\n1600 dual port is a good engine for a Ghia. Enough horsepower to enable you to go 75mph consistently. All the correct CA spec stuff is on there.\r\nSounds like the transmission needs a rebuild which is pricey, so buyers need to consider that. Most shops are likely to charge $1000 for the rebuild plus labor to install.\r\nOverall a very nice solid car in a unique color.
