You will see this pattern used throughout the truck, including the very cool \u201csubway tile\u201d design on the inside door panels (pic 73). This is also repeated as an embossed stamping on the front inner fenders as well (pic 126). \r\n\r\nHorizontal stampings (both raised and recessed) can be seen throughout the vehicle including pictures 19 (back of cab) and pic 96, where, in the engine bay, the tops of the fenders have sweet ridges. Its a cool old truck, 2 things on traffic. Speed limits when this was built were 45 on the highway maybe 50 or 55 on a state highway. It will go those speeds just fine, I have never gone over 70 in it. I think the biggest issue for modern traffic is the brakes. 4 wheel manual drum brakes. This was meant to be and original restoration so we left them that way on purpose. If I was going to street it I would do a power disc conversion for sure. Hope this answers your question! Even with that low gearing I am able to cruise at 60mph (though at fairly high rpm). I would think that this truck with a 3.91:1 rear end would do just fine at moderate highway speeds. The Slant Six can take it. A factory brochure listed the push-button three-speed automatic as the only transmission choice with the 426, along with other high-performance equipment including dual exhausts, heavy-duty springs front and rear, and special instrumentation including a tachometer.
