It was a typical deal - the car was taken apart with the intention of being rebuilt. The owner had moved and the car needed to be removed or it would be junked. The price was very attractive. The location was not; I was in New York, the car was in Raleigh / Durham, NC. Not a problem except it was Wednesday and the car needed to be removed by Saturday. \r\n\r\nQueue a few phone calls to find a semi-willing copilot, rent a box truck as a trailer would have let parts fall off on the way, and make a quick phone call to my brother, who lived in Virginia, to arrange a place to sleep, and we were on our way.\r\n\r\nWe picked up the key to the building from the seller of the car and made it from NY to VA, arriving around 2:00 A.M. Left VA for NC at around 5:00 A.M. and made it to the building somehow.\r\n\r\nLoaded the car and parts up, locked the building up, and headed back to VA. Feeling incredible, we elected to bypass the overnight stay in VA and drive straight through. Many adventures begin with such great ideas. Needless to say, by the time we reached the southern end of NJ my copilot was fast asleep and I was living on nerves and a cold blast of wind from the open window. I was reminded a few times of just how bright the reflection from the polished stainless steel doors on the rear of a semi-trailer can be when you get too close to them at night.\r\n\r\nI owned the Elva for a number of years, never getting it put back together. Lots of discussion of the engine, so I have been doing some research to educate myself, and I have added a couple more photos. I probably know more about MGA engines than I ever thought I would know. So, the engine in the car has a 1600 block. I have uploaded a photo of that. Also, the block has a tag on it, which was probably left on while the block was clean, because it is deteriorated, but still legible, which says that the engine number is 16GA-U-26266, This is an appropriate serial number for a 1960's 1600 engine. So, the engine probably started life as a stock 1600 (1588) engine. With all of the reading that I have done, I think I have learned that the 1600 block was actually more expensive to make than the subsequent 1622 block, and that from an engine displacement standpoint, the 1600 block and the 1622 block are identical. However, the 1622 block has a larger crank and larger bearings, so they are not interchangeable without machining. The extra displacement in the 1622 came from the head. In fact, according to the sources that I found, the first 400 1622 MK II engines used \"15\" code heads instead of \"16\" code heads, and the heads were machined for larger valves and combustion chambers (which apparently took minimal machining). So, I think I have 1588 engine. Now, the previous owner that I purchased the car from said that the head was machined, ported and polished and that the cam was not stock and had a race profile. He also said he thought the displacement was 1622 cc. So, I probably have a modified \"15\" head, which is why I described the head as \"aftermarket\" in the description. The exhaust manifold is also not stock. Rather than wait longer, I will address what I can. Without rehashing a bunch of earlier comments and explanations, I'll note that I bought the car intending to make a nice street car out of it. The chassis and body are solid, which is what most interested me. I didn't intend to sell it, don't want to sell it, but I have to sell it, hence the no reserve auction. So, I am not as prepared as perhaps I should be for this auction. The car is substantially the same \"as-raced\" in the late 60's. The car was retired in '68 and driven sporadically in the 70's before being taken off-road. The previous owner, a current racer, had known the car since new and recommissioned the car close to its original state. Yes, the doors open and latch well. There is no weather stripping installed. I have several interior panels in bad condition, not just the door cards. I have not tried to fit the puzzle to see if they are all there. I don't know why the front and real wheels don't match, but the rear wheels are the ones typically seen on stock Couriers. The bolt pattern is the same. Top bows appear to be complete, but the webbing is shot. I have not gone through the \"spares,\" but earlier in the comments I said that if the car was being shipped, I would pack the \"spares\" in new cardboard boxes for shipping and make an inventory. The previous owner said there are most of the original parts and hardware removed from the car, along with a set of springs, a differential, a drive shaft, a head, a flywheel, an ignition, some shocks, some miscellaneous gears and bearings, some gasket sets, the original blower, a heater, and some other bits and bobs, the original CA plates, original seat covers in bad shape, the original tonneau in bad shape, three of the four bumperettes, a grill, and I don't know what else. I only have two hub caps. I think there is a third in really bad shape. Generator is correct. There is a spare generator and starter. There is also a luggage rack, which was supposedly original to the car. The parts and spares are all Elva or MGA. The listing as a race car evolved in the BAT listing process. I submitted it as a 1960 Elva Courier Mk 1, which is how NV titled it, even though I thought it was a Mk 2. In the BAT write-up came back for approval as you see it. It's not a \"current\" vintage racer, but it is pretty much how it was raced by three owners 1961-1968. He continued to race the car with the Morris Minor wheels and never bothered to replace them. They came with a couple of sets of half shafts (this '60s car listed here will not need since it is not IRS). \n\nWhen we got our car the suspension totally wack, beautiful restoration with a suspension totally tweaked... we discovered that the bent and broken vertical links were properly on our car replaced with early generation TR GT6 parts.
