I\u2019ll be here throughout the process to answer questions about the car. I bought this Z8 from the original California owner in September 2004; at the time, the car had approximately 8,800 miles and was still under the factory warranty. Shortly after purchase, Santa Monica BMW addressed all outstanding recalls, serviced the VANOS and replaced the soft top strings. The car was otherwise in great condition other than the scratch on the passenger side of the hard top (see photo) which I left as-is. \r\n\r\nI drove the car regularly over the years and maintained it based on Roundel\u2019s Mike Miller\u2019s lifetime maintenance plan. Minor issues came and were addressed, mostly the usual BMW Z8 and M5 items such as intake/exhaust/throttle/MAF sensors, power steering hoses, valve cover gaskets, batteries, trunk struts and leaky mirrors. I addressed several high-cost Z8-specific items including replacement of the hard top headliner and replacement of both rear neon taillights \u2013 this alone is a $5k parts and labor job that every Z8 will eventually need. \r\n\r\nThe car has none of the other major faults that are often present with Z8s. No cloudy headlights, no lifting dash leather, no detaching seatbacks, no soft top holes, and especially important, no front strut tower damage. Santa Monica BMW installed the Performance Package as soon as it was available in 2007. The only common Z8 issue on which I took liberty was to replace the radio when it died with a more modern blue-tooth Alpine unit and iPhone charger. Other non-OEM modifications comprise Eisenmann Race Mufflers and removal of the clutch delay valve for smoother shifting. The original non-working radio is included but I do not have the original mufflers. \r\n\r\nIn 2015, I transferred title to my business partner (technically now owner #3) but I continue to be the primary driver and custodian of car as I have been since 2004. For prospective buyers, I had Schneider Autohaus in Santa Barbara do a PPI on the car for the BaT listing, including compression and leak down tests. I\u2019ll post results asap. \r\n\r\nThe sale includes all the original accessories, including the VIN-matched coffee table book. I can provide a detailed list of these on request. \r\n\r\nIn anticipation of comments from sharp-eyed viewers, the car has never been on the \u2018Ring, or any track for that matter. Of all the cars I've owned the Z8 was and is the all around best car....and by a wide margin! Stunning looks reminiscent of the BMW 507, E-Type and Cobra yet with modern safety features and construction. Concept car-like interior? Check! Tons of interior compartments and storage space, such as behind the seats (two locking compartments and storage area), doors (each has two fully enclosed pockets), center console (multiple closing compartments) and a usable glove box. Far more usable storage than Aston Martin, Ferrari or Lamborghini. A huge trunk that easily takes my electric folding bike as well as groceries at Costco simultaneously. (Gerard Butler uses his for surfing.) A powerful yet reliable and easily serviceable V8 that any BMW service center can work on. An easy to use 6 speed manual gearbox. Relatively good gas mileage. What's not to love about a car that is a modern classic and uber rare compared to modern McLarens, Ferraris, Porsches and Lamborghinis (e.g., twice as many Aventadors as Z8 and 4-5 times as many Huricans....none of which have a manual gearbox, and 3-4 times as many 458, 3 times as many 488 Ferraris as there are Z8.
