He describes it as the bike from the movie, and how he got it from the director, and how Carrie Ann Moss couldn't ride it, but in the movie it was a dolled-up 996. Yet, in the pictures, those are the original tires (at least the rear is) from the factory. We can see the date code (3603) of the rear Pilot Sport tire in pic 98. That tire was made in 2003. 2 pics later we can see the wear pattern of the rear tire which is exactly what you\u2019d expect to see from the original tire of a lightly ridden 18 year old 998 with 4k miles. \r\n\r\nWe can\u2019t see the date code on the front, but it does say \u201cPower\u201d which is a version that wasn\u2019t available in 2004. But my brother does. I would argue that having a brother with a matrix is in fact better than having a matrix. I can look at it anytime I want. I can ride it with abandon, after all, it's my brother's bike not mine. And I never have to worry about it. My brother has had this bike for many years. Maybe since the movie came out. He keeps it in perfect mechanical condition. He keeps it polished like a diamond. And he protects it from the dangers of a garage overflowing with cars boats and motorcycles. After all these years the two toys that have become omnipresent in his garage are this deep green Ducati and his bright yellow Meyers manx. The manx is fun but the matrix is simply incredible. The paint color and styling are world class. The riding position is head down, feet back, race ready. I ride a triumph thruxton which I feel keeps me in a position of control but when I get on the matrix the thruxton seems like a toy. The matrix puts you in the perfect position for explosive acceleration, sudden lane changes, and sharp braking. I have been riding and racing motorcycles my entire life and I can't come anywhere near the design limits of this purpose built race bike. My brother on the other hand pushes this bike to the limit. The knee pads on his leathers are worn thin by this bike. But things may be changing. The bike has become valuable. The beautiful example currently up for auction will probably double the current bid. Will my brother keep riding with abandon? Will he let me keep riding with abandon? When room gets tight in the garage will he leave his aston martin out in the rain just to keep the matrix dry? Who knows. Appreciation is a two edge sword. In the next few years this may become the most valuable Ducati of all time. I'm glad my brother's children will get a decent return on this long time investment ( assuming we don't bury him on the bike). But it will be sad to see the bike sit, too precious to scratch, too special to risk dropping on a slick corner. If bumped hard enough the mirror detaches and crashes to earth. A lot of times that special screw has gone missing with a normal screw in its place. The Lower trim below the oil cooler always gets peppered the front fender edge etc and that's quite all right because these bikes are a pleasure to ride. The seller stated that the bike has no rock chips or scratches if you look at picture # 90 there is clearly a rock chip in the wheel and a scratch right next to it. The reason I bring this up is not to negatively affect your listing but when you are not describing the bike accurately you are disrespecting the owners out there that have bikes that are what I would describe as a museum piece.
