The rides are different and I think each has it's pro's and con's, but I find the lowered 1963 Double Cab to have a more stable and controlled ride, especially on the highway at typical speeds. Or as close as I could get anyway :-)\r\n\r\nThe baltic birch panels were used in this era Westfalia campers (I had a 1960 VW Westfalia camper in the 90's) and I always liked the look. FWIW, I installed a new \"Freeway Flyer\" from Rancho in our '62. I was told by the previous owner that the tranny in this '63 was gone through and geared like a \"Freeway Flyer\" and feels similar to our '62. The power and torque are balanced thru all gears. So much better than the original reduction box tranny that was on our '62. I drove it like that for years before I learned what it could be.\r\n\r\nThere are more holes in the '63 dash than in our '62 dash and I can only assume previous owner's were responsible? I left them with the intention of using them for stuff like a device charger (since it's now 12v), but didn't get around to it. I\u2019ve got the stock heater system working as it did when new. I replaced the heater boxes at the same time as the engine and installed new \u201cflapper\u201d wires and the control knob (at the front seat base) is working properly. \n\nPerhaps as important as those bits, all the window and door seals are new so the cabin is as leak free as possible. This helps the heat to work as it was designed to. I live in Ohio, so having the heat system working was important to me.
