I bought this truck just over 7 years ago when I was looking for a fun little truck to haul firewood with. I wasn't even really aware of Series Land Rovers at the time, but I'd always been a fan of Defenders. I purchased this truck from a friend of a friend, and the Land Rover infatuation began. I dove deep into the history and pedigree of Land Rover, and became enthralled with the Camel Trophy videos. Just after purchasing my truck, I joined the team at Alloy + Grit, a Land Rover enthusiast magazine. I worked along the small team of 3 other Land Rover fanatics and we produced Alloy + Grit for 3 years. During the time, my truck was one of the \"project vehicles\" for the magazine, which provided the parts (and deadlines) to keep making progress on the restoration of the truck. It began by tearing the truck down to the frame (which was thankfully still in good shape with no major rust issues). I sanded off all of the surface rust, painted it with a rust-proof paint, and then a top coat of Por15 for good measure. From there, I slowly pieced the truck back together bit by bit, replacing the old, worn out parts with new parts. This included all new brakes, an all new electrical system including the entire wiring harness, a rebuilt engine from a Series 3, etc. etc. (see post description for full list of replaced parts). After getting it all completed, in the summer of 2020 a group of friends and I planned an off-roading trip to West Virginia. A 9-hour drive to West Virginia from my home in New Jersey was slow but fun, and we had a great time exploring the mountains and dirt roads of West Virginia. I then slowly made my way home, with my truck performing great the entire trip. Since that trip, I've used the truck locally for taking the kids to get ice cream, hauling wood, and the occasional jaunt down a dirt road. \r\n\r\nI'm selling the truck now because we're building a cabin in Vermont, and as usual, it's more expensive than anticipated. Just missing a British Heritage certificate to confirm factory specs. I like the Series II bits (round knobs for the bulkhead air vents, horn button on the steering column arm, etc.). I would install the missing front apron under the grill (shown separately in the photos). I like the subtle upgrades (USB dash plug, spin-on oil filter, alternator, etc.). I would add overdrive, a heater, front locking hubs, the missing rear reflectors and a rear folding step. \r\n\r\nWhy the slight discrepancy on the chassis number versus the VIN on the title? There is no syncromesh between 1st and 2nd, but there is between 2nd and 3rd, and 3rd and 4th. When shifting up, I know the transmission so well that I can time it perfectly and not need to double clutch, but on downshifts I always do double-clutch.\r\n\r\nAs for the fuel filter, yeah, I shoulda replaced that before taking the photos! In the day and the limit of my experience is the 1950's, 60's and probably early 70's. I've seen them off as much as two years. I'm sure the same thing happened in the 30's and 40's too. Come to think of it I do have a 1946 Wolseley which the paperwork shows 1957 and 1931 Austin 7 which the paperwork says was a 1930 which is backwards from this conversation. The actual VIN is no where near to what the paperwork says. I'm thinking it might have been stolen in the UK and shipped to the USA.
